I am not sure what genre to classify his music...in many respects it's bubble gum country or unoriginal beachy music poorly fashioned in the tradition of Jimmy Buffett.

I happen to be a Kenny fan 
Granted alot of his radio singles suck but some the album Be As You Are: Songs From an Old Blue Chair is awesome for cruising around in the boat during the summer.
And it wouldn't matter about being plugged in anyway. You wouldn't hear his guitar. I've seen this many times with lead singers. Their guitars are turned down so much anyway neither them nor the crowd can hear it.

i am not trolling here, but my wife dropped this last week. She saw Kenny's pilot in her office(surgical center) and they made small talk about the SEC. He said Kenny and a UT QB always hang out on his Island. Just Kenny and the old UT QB.....

the "crossover" movement started around the Garth Brooks/Shania Twat/Faith Hill era. Kenny falls into this catagory despite his better efforts (Back Where I come From, Me and You). The sentiments of the songs changed along with the image of the performers. Kenny's efforts to morph into Jimmy Buffet morphed his roots as well.

I used to like Kenny's old stuff. His "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" Cd was is honestly still one of my favorite CDs that I own. Just about every song on it is awesome.
