Nirvana vs. Smashing Pumpkins

I feel that there careers are very similar up to Kurt's Suicide and SP's Mellon Collie album.

Nirvana Bleach (B) vs. Smashing Pumpkins Gish (B+): Both are very raw debuts but with a lot of potential and you can hear both bands' future sound coming through. Both are very solid albums, but I have to give the edge to the Smashing Pumpkins here since it seemed more polished, which was probably due to Butch Vig as the producer.

Nirvana Nevermind (A) vs. Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream (A-): Both albums are produced by Butch Vig and are considered to be sellout albums for both bands as they are heavily produced with a lot of over dubbs. As much as it pains me to say it, I have to give the edge to Nevermind because of the ground that it broke by breaking into the mainstream. Siamese Dream rode the coattails of Nevermind, but is a great album in its own right.

Nirvana Incesticides (B+) vs. Smashing Pumpkins Pisces Iscariot (B): Both are b side compilations that most bands would drool over. I don't consider these b sides at all as there are a lot of great songs on these albums and would be considered A material for a lot of other bands. Have to give the edge to Incesticides since they are all original Nirvana songs and Pisces Iscariot includes about 3 covers.

Nirvana In Utero (A-) vs. Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (A): Both albums are kind of a mix between their obscure roots and mainstream success. Smashing Pumpkins gets the nod here since it was a double album with very little filler and no two songs sounding anywhere close to the same.
