I know they are 2 different eras and 2 different styles of rock but both bands obviously were cut down in their prime. If you could take away the tragedy from one band and have the full lifetime of the band who would you pick?
My vote would be Skynyrd

Skynyrd.

Their problem was shite management letting them use a shite plane.

Nirvana the problem was the leader. Cobain was a basket of problems.

Had he not killed himself and Skynyrd not had the crash, Nirvana still implodes. Cobain had to sort out being a man. They all had substance problems Cobain had profound mental illness that he medicated with heroin.

Also replace one of a trio is tougher than what Skynyrd did. They and the Allmans were like Earth Wind and Fire at their peak. Looked like 10 members.

I’d go with Nirvana. They would be more interesting to watch as they evolve.
Full disclosure: I never was a huge Skynyrd fan.

Addiction doesn’t make someone less a man. But he did talk about wanting to quit and just raise Frances. No idea what happens if he doesn’t kill himself but I don’t see Nirvana lasting much longe r

Didn’t mean it like that. Should have just said person.

He did not know how to exist in his own skin. Sure as hell not once he was famous.

Skynyrd.

Ronnie the superior vocalist and the music is better.

Never got into the hype of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana.

Prime Skynyrd was the shite.

If that damned crash didn't happen then they would have been huge still in the 80s and would be good in the 90s even if they hit a decline.

Allman Brothers /thread

I love when people try to be cool and shite on Skynyrd. At the time of their death, Skynyrd was arguably the greatest American band of all time.

the whole sordid and seamy drama around cobain and courtney love I think soured a lot of people on nirvana and overshadowed appreciation for cobain’s considerable talents. I know it did for me

by sheer coincidence I watched the whole unedited nirvana unplugged performance last night and was blown away (again). I don’t need anymore lynyrd skynyrd in my life but I sure would like some more of “that”

Is Cobain a better talent than Van Zant?

maybe maybe not
I don’t believe that was the question in the OP though nor the point of this thread

Nirvana would’ve evolved a lot more with the times and music industry imo

Think you know what you were getting with Skynyrd

completely agree
if the question is, given a choice, would I rather have more new music from nirvana or more new music from lynyrd skynyrd, i'm going nirvana 10/10

and that has nothing to do with who is more talented/who had the better career/etc. there is already 10x more skynyrd music than nirvana music
