If that damned crash didn't happen then they would have been huge still in the 80s and would be good in the 90s even if they hit a decline.

I doubt the 80s would have been kind to the band, as it wasn't to lot of 70s bands. RVZ liked to burn the candle from all ends.

remember reading a quote about one of the members loved to eat shrooms and sniff glue, it was something like "he could build a model plane with his breath"

Blind Melon or Alice In Chains over LS & Nirvana

I love AIC but confused why this is stated in this thread. They weren't cut down in their prime, they hadn't released an album for 7 years by the time Layne OD'd.

Why is this even a question?

It's Skynard and it's not close.

I think he was absolutely cut down in his prime from drug addiction. That’s why they hadn’t released anything and then he overdosed. 2 years 4 years 7 years whatever. He was 34 and in 2 very successful bands.

I feel a little weird framing it as “who would you rather not die”, but I’ll say I do like Nirvana’s music more and would have been more interested to see how they progressed. Nothing against Skynyrd.

It would have been very likely had RVZ not have died, Lynyrd Skynyrd would be an outlaw country band in the 80s.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

“none” of lynyrd skynyrd is touring
it’s a cover band

and back to the question in the OP, we got PLENTY of new skynyrd music after 1977… nine albums of mostly original material in fact. That nobody considers those “skynyrd” music is because they weren’t very good, but they are new music written & recorded by a band called lynyrd Skynyrd which included Gary Rossington and ed king

hard to make this comparison when Skynyrd is still touring today

That most definitely is not Lynyrd Skynyrd.
