The opening riff sounds like Gojira - Stranded. Not exactly, but similar.

And then people who can actually sing show up. (I like Gojira)

Nutshell and down in a hole are definitely my favorite songs by AIC.

Am I the only one that thinks, overall, Facelift is a better album than Dirt?

Yeah ... you might be lone wolf on that one.

Not saying Facelift isn't good ... it is.

But IMO, Dirt is just way better.

Dirt has a lot of their iconic hits. Facelift was the infant stage of Alice. Jar of flies was also great and pretty much branched off of Dirt. Nevertheless, Alice in Chains is distinguishable and sort of pioneers for that brand of rock.

These stats always freak me out:
Layne Staley was in AIC for 15 years (1987-2002, and the last time he worked with AIC was 1998, so really 11 years)
William Duvall has been with AIC for 12 years already (2006-prsent)

I like the new albums as much as the next fan, but hard for me to believe we are approaching Duvall equaling the amount of time Layne put in.

Another cool fact is Duvall will have equaled the amount of full length albums (3) that AIC put out with Layne once the new album comes out. (not counting EPs which I know have some of the best songs) Just full length albums.

Haven't listened to the 2nd single yet "So far under", anyone heard it yet? Looking forward to the new album, and also getting to see them for the first time in October.

It's great. Early AiC-ish.

And as much as I love Layne, Will has actually been a dependable partner, something Jerry never really had with Layne.

While that is not debatable, the music was much better with Layne. And I like the new albums alot. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for 90s AIC. But the fact that they are still making music makes me happy.

They had to cancel a few big tours in the 90s. They were gonna headline Lollapalooza one year and they were gonna open for Metallica another year but Layne was in too bad of a shape to tour.

I actually prefer their new music. Dirt is a 90s classic but the other two aren't that great. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is easily their second best album.

The music was better and Layne's vocals are tremendous (although I really hate the AIC self titled album) but I am glad everything is not all about drug usage in the lyrics anymore. Although a tremendous delve into the abyss it was, it was all about being a junkie and that kind of shite is what killed him also. Jerry was always more than that.
