Only exception is they can’t be a one hit wonder. Doesn’t have to be their most popular song, just one that you feel best represents that band’s overall body of work.
Ex. “Enter Sandman” is Metallica’s most popular song, but “Master of Puppets” or “One”probably represents their career the best.

Radiohead: “Like Spinning Plates”
The live version of this song is one of the most beautiful things you’ll ever hear. Yet, when the band decided to record it for Amnesiac, they processed it to the point where it is almost unrecognizable. Sums them up quite well.
And I say this as a Radiohead fan.
