They did the same thing Thursday in San Francisco at a 500 capacity club. I was actually in San Francisco that day but didn’t find out until 2 hours after the announcement & the wristbands were already sold out. So upset. These are warm up shows for the festival dates they are about to play.

Yeah, the video I saw of the line... so many folks aren't going to get in that are waiting... I guess its the hope that keeps them in line

Bummer because I live literally down the street. We got wind via our neighborhood FB group at around 11:30 and there were already 500 people in line. That was before it broke widespread on social media via the band and the Metro and the line got even bigger. Would have tried to run over and wait but I couldn't make it work in between meetings.

Should be a great time for the few who got tickets.

Seems like most of the songs played were uploaded to YouTube. Looks pretty cool

Pearl Jam played here Saturday night for a festival and rumors were flying like crazy that they were going to be doing some secret show Friday night somewhere in town. That never happened, but we did bump into Mike McCready Saturday morning so there's that.
Foo fighters at HOB in New Orleans was similar, we were in New Orleans but no way we could get tickets as fast as they went

That’s incredible … more bands that don’t need the money should do this

Metallica is just a radio band now . Total posers . Sell outs . Not bashing them bc they made millions but Kill Em All, RTL, and Master of Puppets is the Metallica for me . Everything after is ok or not very good

sell outs . they were a thrash band now they are def leppard . They wont get rid of Lars unless something internally happens but he is the weak link . Put a Dave Lombardo or Gene Hogland behind the kit and Metallica becomes 100% better

...And makes substantially less money.

Labeling Metallica as "sell-outs" is beyond stale, at this point. They've been the "New Metallica" far longer than they were the "Old Metallica" by now, and the majority of their fanbase came to terms with that a long time ago.

These guys earned the right to do whatever they wanna do after releasing the five-album juggernaut from "Kill" to "Black." Anything beyond is just gravy.

Vinnie Paul would have been a better fit than Dave or anyone else.

Joey was the best drummer in Metallica though. Say what you want about his former bands (which i dont like) or etc..but when he was at physical peak, he was the shite. Extremely talented percussionist.

RIP

Many fans discount Lars Ulrich for his lack of technical prowess on drums, but his real value to Metallica is in his songwriting chops and knack for arrangements, and such. Not to mention his business acumen.

It's got little to do with the quality of the music, but if not for Lars Ulrich, these guys would only have a fraction of the wealth they possess today. I'd bet James, Kirk, Jason, and Rob appreciate that.

Consider that before Lars (and producer Bob Rock) intervened, "Enter Sandman," the band's signature song, key moneymaker, and beloved hit that's on constant rotation on radio and in sports stadiums, was going to be about crib death...

Eh... I mean, with all due respect, the guy's a rock star, a multi-millionaire, and European. We were only gonna be able to relate to him for so long. I don't hold his success against him.

At least there's still that "everyman" quality with James Hetfield and Rob Trujillo. Jason Newsted was especially good for this, having literally been one of us before joining the band.

thats what I mean, everyone else in the bad is cool.

Kirk is an extremely nice guy as well, so when you have the talents of James, Rob, Jason, Kirk, and even Cliff..the least talented member of a band that has the worst attitude rubs people wrong.

I suppose.

I've always viewed it as, "Lars may be an a-hole, but he's the a-hole in my favorite band" sorta way.

For what it's worth, Ulrich often contends that if folks knew the truth, they'd see that Hetfiled is the real bad guy in the bunch. Stories leading to Newsted's departure seem to back this up, though Hetfiled's changed a lot since then.
