Who did it better? Hendrix or SRV?

Monte Montgomery. That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. Saw him live in Lafayette and Austin prob 15-20 years ago. Dude is insane.

I had never heard SRV's cover until today. I wasn't expecting no vocals, but it was pretty damn cool.

Growing up Clapton's version is the first I heard (as my brother played in bands and always had EC playing at home), but as someone said, SRV perfected that song with his instrumental.

All great covers. They're all fabulous, which speaks to the original.

Another one:

That's why SRV's instrumental version is better. The lyrics are atrocious.

What?

quote:

Well, she's walkin'
Through the clouds
With a circus mind
That's running wild
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind
When I'm sad
She comes to me
With a thousand smiles
She gives to me free
Oh, it's alright, she says, it's alright
Take anything you want from me
Anything
Anything
Fly on, little wing
Yeah-yeah, yeah, fly on, little wing

It's a simple song, lyrically, but it's fine. What is so atrocious about the above?

Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams? Wow, that's pure thought-provoking poetry right there.

It's painting a picture of what goes on in the person's head. Not every lyric has to be some profound statement on the meaning of life.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies

Is that atrocious too?

They're real, I saw them all weekend at the Dead Show in Golden Gate Park. None came out in my photos, but I swear I saw them dancing in tune to the music.
