For various reasons (gimmicky, novelty, etc), I've never considered the following legit:

Kiss
Poison
Meatloaf
Nickleback

I'm sure I'm leaving some out...

Manowar is great. I forgot about them until seeing this. I'm busting out my old cd's tonight.

...but I get why you listed them

Some solid posts here. I'd like to add Marilyn Manson and Slipknot to the list. Not saying they aren't talented or have produced a good turn or two, just can't take them serious.

I'll give you Manson, but if you think Slipknot is a gimmic, i recommend you listen to Vermilion: Part 2

I'm familiar with V pt2. I like the song, but I still can't take the band serious.

Fair enough. I can admit that their entire visual motif is clearly a gimmick. However, much like some other bands which utilize "gimmicks" like Kiss and Ozzy, there is still some serious music behind it.

Completely agree. They are talented and have put out some good stuff over the years. I'm quite partial to Iowa, Vol 3: the Subliminal Verses, and All Hope is Gone. Their music isn't gimmicky, their visual motif definitely is. Just can't get on board with it, prolly just too old.

Why them? Have you ever listened to more than two of their songs? Every album up until the last two have been amazing, they also put on a great live show.

Yeah, Battle Hymns was an awesome debut, followed by Into Glory Ride and Hail To England which were really good.

But, man, did they have some cheesy as hell album covers. I understand how people see them as a joke.
