Nonsense. Tell that to the portrait artists who went out of business when photography became available to the public.

A lot of people who would have had a portrait artist do their portrait simply took a photo of themselves or paid a professional photo studio to do it because it was much cheaper and quicker than having a portrait artist do it.

You are conflating two things that are not the same. A picture taken with a camera is not the same as a painting. People may choose to have their picture taken rather than a portrait painted of them because the picture is quicker and cheaper, but that doesn't make a photo and a painting "the same" in any meaningful sense. Taking music that you "created" using AI and trying to pass it off as your own art is equivalent to taking a photo and then claiming that the resulting picture is the same as if you had painted it.

Not only is creating music using AI artistically dishonest, but it opens yourself to questions about exactly how much input you ever had in the first place. You say you and your brother wrote the melodies and lyrics, and while I don't necessarily have any reason to doubt you, you have to admit that for all anyone else knows it is entirely possible that you simply told the AI, "Write a song about that time my brother filmed a school of porpoises in San Francisco Bay and then tried to pass it off as a sea serpent," and then claimed the result as your own.

I'm going to derail this thread a little bit: About 10 years ago, a guy posted on this forum about splitting up with his woman. He had decided that he was going to buy a guitar and apply himself to learning to play while he worked through it. He wanted advice on what to buy.
I thought it was a great idea for a song and I started working on it. I changed the story a little to make it a bit more positive and I thought it worked out pretty well and I did a simple acoustic guitar/ vocal recording at a small local studio. I uploaded that recording to soundcloud and posted it here. I got pretty good responses on it. It's a decent song demo, but it needed a little more.
A couple of weeks ago I ran that recording through suno and let it do a remix. Now these aren't intended to be a commercial recording, it's a song demo. The publishers are now accepting AI song demos. Give your honest opinions, Which one sounds best?
Original recording: LINK

Here is the remix: LINK

I much prefer the original. The AI version feels too processed.

The original version is good but the remix version is much better.

I know I'm not an AI bot but I don't know about you.

I am not claiming or implying that a photograph looks like a painting.

Of course a photo doesn't look like a painting but before cameras the only option a person had in order to get a picture of themself was to hire a portrait artist to draw or paint it.

Once the camera was invented people now had another option which was cheaper, took less time and looked exactly like the person.

When have my brother and I claimed the AI version of our songs were completely our own artistic creation?

If people enjoy the final AI version of any of my brother's and my songs that's all that matters to me.

Nonsense.

Everyone can believe whatever nonsense they want to believe but that doesn't make it the truth.

BTW, Bruce Champagne who has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology did an analysis of the January 26, 2004 video and he explains in his written report why the animals in the video are not dolphins or porpoises but are several large serpentine aquatic animals unknown to science.

I'll be honest, I don't see a huge difference between artists who use pro-tools to produce all of the music they are singing on or rock bands who write a bunch of riffs and piece it together using the software in some Frankenstein-style amalgamation that they can't even play live. And a lot of modern music involves both cases. At that point artists are just outsourcing talent more than they already have been for years.

That said, I do see a difference in something that a band like The Beatles recorded in a continuous take, that they sat down and wrote together, vs AI even if the AI product was just as good.

So I'm not just wholly against AI art, but it depends on what it is. I don't care a bit about some 3D printed sculpture or a painting that AI "made". A movie or TV show that is written or even generated by AI? If its good, for some reason that one doesn't seem as bad to me.

This is my sticking point. This holding out the hope/want for these programs to ever produce something comparable to human expression.

It's a plagiarism/xerox vomiter and should be treated as such.

I am of the mind that it absolutely will create some awesome stuff eventually purely in terms of product output.

I've heard some classical stuff that AI "wrote" and it was pretty good. Now was it a straight rip from some piece I haven't heard? I'm not sure. And either way part of the appeal of classical to me is getting all of these various pieces working in concert together to make something beautiful. A collection of real musicians playing this music that one person got together and created.

Those study/background music channels on Youtube are going to be absolutely slammed with the stuff though.

I pitched the original several times to different publishers and they never showed any interest. The remix has already been picked up twice for another listen.

Doglovertoo - I would love to hear you and your brothers songs but every single one that I clicked on said "error" with the wheel rolling and the 5 second count down then go to the lyrics for one second then back to the error over and over.

This is one we did about weeding out the bad friends and reaping the benefits of life. It's called WEED IT AND REAP. Yes it's Ai.

Using those recording programs is the thing that made AI music possible.
I know it's hard for some to accept, but almost all current artists and bands are using AI extensively for production. Have been for several years now.

I don't know why that is happening.

Are you waiting a few seconds after the page opens for the play button to appear at the bottom of the page then hitting the play button?

Here's the link to a song my brother wrote the lyrics to and worked on the arrangement.

Try it again and let me know if it works.

Yep, that's the only reason I bother writing the stuff down in the first place.
