Staley. Probably the most haunting voice I've ever heard.

That's b/c the OP is a master at the subtle troll and yet, he always gets people to bite. Just enough to make you think, "Is he trolling or for real?"

Morrison, as Staley's is my least favorite voice in all of music.

I prefer Morrison. I think Morrison's raw emotions were more natural. Staley's vocals seemed to be more stylistic than natural. That being said, I lie both, and they were both essential to the sounds achieved by their bands.

Don't even know who this Staley cat is, so I'll go with Mr Mojo Risin.

I'm biased because The Doors are one of my favorite bands of all time (saw Manzarek and Krieger when they played Houston a few years back).

However, I look at it as who, in the next 30 years, will have the most staying power? The Doors made some great hits that are still played to this day going on almost 45 years after Jim's death; It's only been 13 years since Layne died.

On any given day you can turn on a classic rock station and hear "Peace Frog" or "Light My Fire". Likewise, I could turn on 94.5 the buzz in Houston and hear Rod Ryan's annoying voice introduce "Rooster" or "Man in the Box".

I personally believe it's comparing apples to oranges but my subjective opinion is Jim; his screeches and crooning/haunting vocals still carry weight to this day.

Manzarek and Krieger were both pretty damn good. Morrison was a bombastic douche and their music is violently over-played and has been run through the pop culture meat grinder, so to speak, but The Doors did make some good music.

Neither of them are particularly good, diverse singers. Both of them are recognizable voices, but not well-trained. I think Staley has the more unique, harder to mimic voice, so I would have to go with him.

As for Morrison being nothing without Manzarek, you could almost certainly say the same thing about Staley sans Cantrell.

11 votes for Staley... 8 votes for Morrison.. I figured it would be close. thanks to all for the responses. These are my 2 fav vocalists. (all-time)
