Neutral Milk Hotel released this song in 1998. I hear it all the time on various Spotify playlists and sometimes on XMU/ALTnation.

If I went with NMH, I think I would go with this one, but all three songs linked are perfect in my view.

A legitimately good song off of a legitimately great album, yet still the litmus test for if someone is an indie try-hard or not.

Both are great. For BTS I think my fav of theirs is The Plan or Gone or their cover of Cortez the Killer

Speaking of Yo La Tengo I used to listen to this nonstop on my way to English class every morning one summer. It was an mp3 that I burned to a CD that I played in a Discman connected to my Geo Prizm via the cassette tape adapter.
I’d put it up there as one of my personal ultimate indie/college songs for sure.

I was halfway through law school when this came out, so I don't think of "college," but it is the first song on my too lazy to change it running/skiing/driving/everything playlist and I never hit the shuffle button until it has played.
We saw them in a dive bar in Missoula a few years ago, and it was one of the best music experiences of my life.
For the category at hand, I'd give Dinosaur Jr. Feel The Pain a nod.
