You have to be pretty damn shallow to not care for a certain type of music if you know the artist's age exceeds some arbitrary number.

True..

For instance, let's say you hear a song and determine that you like it,

Doubtful given the "dance pop punk vibe" that a poster referenced. Again, thats just opinion.

If you are my age (42) and find a ton of new music exciting or listenable, I am jealous. If you are a guy in his early 20's then soak as much in as you can. Whatever you find and love at that age is what you will love forever. I was lucky (IMO) that Pearl Jam and Seattle were exploding in those years for me. I love Led Zepplin too, but lets face it, in 1980-1 when Bonham died and the band broke up 7 year old me was oblivious. My point is for most people there is a narrow window where you are receptive to music, and that music is what you will listen to forever. If you are one of those rare people that are 45 and can love The Weekend (HORRIBLE example) then I'm kinda jealous.

I don't agree that there is a narrow window. Obviously, there is a special place in your heart for music from high school and childhood due to nostalgia. But there are some things released every year that I enjoy more than that old stuff.

Personally, I will be keeping up with music released every year because I really enjoy it and am passionate about it.

Try being 48

I might hear 3 songs a year worth hearing. I find more new old stuff than new new stuff.

Regardless of genre, you are still using an arbitrary age as a factor in whether you like music or not.

I feel sorry for you...but I do acknowledge that lots of people are in your shoes.

They are the only real true rock band that is worth a shite. There are still good punk bands that play and have lasted a while but no real rock bands that can consistently make good music and are awesome live.

That is ridiculous and kind of sad

The notion that for the rest of your life you will most likely only really enjoy things you liked in high school and college (music, food, movies, cars, clothing, travel, etc...) is totally absurd. Such a stale point of view

a solo cup? at the Grammy's! Who would have thought of such an outrageous display of rebellion. Move over GG Allin, you got nothing on this wild man.

You made a lot of leaps there. I just mean music. Not ANY of the other things you've mentioned. If you don't think everybody is subject to a little "get off my lawn attitude" as they age you are kidding yourself.

Of course you will find new things. New music. My point was if you were a person who loves music so much and are receptive to it as you age, I am jealous.

Unless you have grown to embrace Bro-Country. Then I'm sad for you.

His music is the equivalent of a red solo cup.

I think I visit this board maybe once a month and I remember why.

Nothing but a bunch of pretentious "look at me, I love music no one listens to but should and your mainstream stuff is terrible type" posters. Sorry I don't listen to bands that plays dive bars and 500 youtube hits.

I love the hell out of the FF. Voodoo 14 is probably the best convert I've ever been to and it's not close. So call me a fanboy, I don't care. Down votes galore. There's nothing I've seen from Grohl to consider him some egotistical maniac. Dude is always doing some cool shite for someone.

Taking a step back, this type of thread is par for the course for a board that idolizes fricking PHISH and some rapper named 2Chainz.

Thanks, but I'll stick with the generic, bland Foo Fighters.

Dude, if you like the FF that's fine. I just don't find them all that compelling.

I think a lot of us are put off because we keep up and listen to a lot of new music (not saying that you don't). When someone makes a claim that the Foo Fighters are the best band of the last 20 years, I can't help but wonder if the person just hasn't bothered to seek out music other than mainstream rock radio.

And FYI, I'd rather listen to FF over Phish any day.

I forgive you. It's not entirely your fault you like shite music. Could have a lot to do with your upbringing and surroundings. You should make an effort to grow, though.

The bands I name dropped (for an analogy and to support my argument) have tons of fans and play packed shows. You can find them in a Rolling Stone. They're not THAT obscure.

I'm 24 and in a similar boat. It's more like a dozen songs, but same issue. Late 60's and early 70's hard rock just does it for me as does late 90's/early 2000's pop/punk and ska.

I've discovered a lot of bands over the past year or so (Arctic Monkeys, Raconteurs, Alabama Shakes, Mutemath, ect), but it's almost like they're just keeping time, waiting for a new generation of titans ro revive rock n roll in the public consciousness.
