What I don't get is how people somehow expect this band to play super challenging, artfully difficult music when they never really put themselves out there as being that kind of thing to begin with. I think it's a duncey holdover from the whole duncey impression that they are supposed to be Nirvana Part II.

Or this is all just contrarian posturing maybe? Is it really worth all this hand-wringing effort to try and relegate them to bygone status for the purpose of quasi-hip one-upmanship? I think this is the case and I think a lot of people who actually know/knew something about music quality are giving up altogether because this kind of mentality is making the current climate so off-putting.

It's a shame. But it's definitely the logical de-evolution from the 90s fallout where bonafide alternative music was infiltrated by dilettantes and subsequently thrown into the cycle of goofy fashion trends that allow embarrassing shite like indie folk to flourish.

Not once in my life have I ever considered them Nirvana II or thought they were trying to duplicate their sound.

Both bands are completely different. Both sounds are completely different. Both moods are completely different. Their songs are completely different.

How the hell someone tries two compare a rock band with a Grunge band is beyond me. If someone tries to call FF a grunge band, then I don't know what to tell them.

Thats fair. I respect your opinion. The posters here that look down upon people that like FF are the targets of my post. There are quite a few in this thread that are pretentious as frick because they listen to shite no one listens to.

I forgive you. It's not entirely your fault you like shite music. Could have a lot to do with your upbringing and surroundings. You should make an effort to grow, though.

Case in point...

Like we are supposed to respect their taste in music because they found some hipster band on some eastern European torrents site. There's a reason The Donkey Zippers have 57 fans on Facebook. It's not because they're any good.

See my post about the solo cup.

I don't hate the foo fighters. They have music I like, but I like it as catchy throwaway rock. They get way more praise and adulation from the music media than their product merits. All this posturing they've been doing about their album Sonic Highways, ie playing with Preservation Hall and embedding themselves in the local music scenes of various cities. In the end, that was just another standard Foo Fighters album. There was no trace of the indigenous music they claimed to have studied so profoundly, and I'm certainly not the only person to think that. Yet Grohl keeps getting put on a pedestal as some musical icon.

Not reading 90 pages of this shitshow but what the frick makes a band "threatening?" What does that even mean

I once saw Ed Roland of Collective Soul leap into the audience to start a fight with a guy who threw a beer bottle at him. That was kinda threatening, I guess. But somehow I don't think Collective Soul is who you're talking about.

I just don't usually hear people talking about obscure bands with 50 facebook fans. Out of curiosity, what are like 10 albums you were into from 2015?

lol. So what?

He the first rock star ever do something that wasn't in line with everyone else?

My guess is he was doing that for a laugh, not to try to beg for money or land a sponsor from Solo. Because that's what he's always done. Hes always tried to keep a humorous side to himself and the band persona.

What do you think he was trying to accomplish?

You are so freaking butthurt about what other people on this board think about one of your favorite bands, it is hilarious! Why do you care? You are creating this insane image of the board because you see threads about bands you haven't heard of, and then see a negative thread about one of your favorite bands. Get over yourself!

I love the hell out of the FF. Voodoo 14 is probably the best convert I've ever been to and it's not close. So call me a fanboy, I don't care. Down votes galore.

That's great! It's your opinion and you are entitled to it. Now stop acting like some teenage girl crying for attention.

Taking a step back, this type of thread is par for the course for a board that idolizes fricking PHISH and some rapper named 2Chainz.

I don't care for Phish or 2 chains. There are definitely some people here that love them and create a lot of threads about them. So what? I don't post in those threads because it doesn't interest me.

2015?

I can't keep up with years and I'm not so deep into music that I go out of my way to buy new albums. I'm just NOW getting around to hearing ALL of Sonic Highways (which I love) That's a 2014 album.

I'll listen to absolutely anything if it's not country pop or rap.

Other than that, I can sing you theme songs to team umizoomi and bubble guppies like a boss.

Look at you go.

You're so trendy, I've decided to go DL your torrents site and find some band that's sloppy and incoherent with no rythym.

Where's the cheapest place I can buy non prescription red frames, skinny jeans, and chucks?

Then that might explain why YOU haven't heard about the bands people are talking about. But just because you haven't heard about them doesn't mean they are not well known. Especially to people who keep up with music. And this is a music board.

Some current artists off the top of my head that I think I've seen people talking about around here: Arcade Fire, War on Drugs, Father John Misty, Tame Impala, Real Estate, Cloud Nothings, Ty Segall, Ought, The National, St. Vincent,Kurt Vile, Beach House, etc etc

These are not unknown artists. If you flip open a music mag or go to a music site, you will surely see them being discussed.

I like Arcade Fire and have heard War on Drugs.

Those other bands are so good, I hear them all over the radio and millions of people are talking about them.

I've literally never heard any of those of those other bands/acts and I like to think I listen to Alt Nation enough to even see their names come across or be good enough to remember.

I'll go look them up on Spotify and report back.

Just looked through Spotify on the first few you listed.

Amount of spotify plays says otherwise.

All hipster noise. Love what you love. Not my cup of tea, but I'm not going to look down upon your choice of music.

Father John Misty and Ty Segall was just awful. Ty Segall had literally zero structure to that music. No thanks
