That is fine, but up top you said he "isn't good". I am not a fan of Brad Paisley, but I do think he is good at what he does and I wouldn't say he sucks in a million years. I think a lot of times people say an artist isn't good, simply because they don't fit their taste.

The "he's not any good because he was in a band I didn't like over a decade ago argument" is bizarre. It's fine if you don't personally like the music, but it's hard to deny that the guy is a talented musician. The output (from Alter bridge to his solo work) over the last four to five years has been incredible.

And on a related note, AB puts on an amazing live show. They're not quite in my top tier of bands as far as overall favorites, but I'm not sure I've seen a better live performance. They sell out big arenas in Europe, but you can catch them in small venues in the states.

Netherlands for some reason just can't get enough of them. Or Madrid.

Yeah most of Europe loved Alter Bridge before anyone knew much about them and Europe gave zero fricks about Creed.

That's the dumbfounding thing, though. I can listen to Creed. I'm open to any rock and virtually any guitar talent. I recognize Mayer can play; hell, I was excited to hear Bruno Mars was going to play the Super Bowl a couple years ago. I have a drastically diverse ear, I just can't get behind Tremonti as a great guitarist - much less the "king" of modern day rock or metal, metal used extremely loosely. I want to like him, I really do, but his underwhelming play makes it unattainable.

I gotcha man. I am not trying to force you to like him. There are many guitarists I think are better than Tremonti. I just think he is one of the best in the mainstream circuit.

Well that's perfectly reasonable - should have mentioned from the get go.

I'm all about respecting guitar (and musical) talent regardless of genre or taste. The Brad Paisley point made above is the perfect example.

Whether it's Tremonti or someone else, it would be nice to see somebody carrying the hard rock or metal flag into the mainstream and show the public what some real guitar playing is.

You mean such a thing exists? All the current releases I hear are insipid pop songs, insipid country songs, electropop or hip hop.

This is the saddest part about this thing.

Rock ain't what it used to be. It's gotten to the point that we're talking about the fricking Alterbridge guitarist as the best in rock right now.

He can't hold a fricking candle to John Frusciante. Even Mike from Incubus is a better player and more original than him.

But John is making fricking hip hop

And Mike from Incubus wants to write basic arse shite now that EDM has sullied his brain.

Goddammit where my music gone?

Alter Bridge isn't Creed 2.0 like when they started out. They are legitimately good....an alternative band with metal influences. And Tremonti's solo work is really good as well.

Many people just hear Tremonti/Alter Bridge and think back to the Creed "With Arms Wide Open" video.

x2 on my own prison. My own prison is borderline great. And Tremonti's guitar parts are always good, no matter what album. The problem that we all agree on is Scott Stapp's overwhelming, smothering douch-ee-ness.

Human Clay is great also. Even Weathered is pretty good. They were a very good band with a lot of good songs. Stapp was douchey, yes. But I saw them live several times, and at their peak (which was substantial -something like 40M albums sold) he was great at what he did.
