The problem is that its fricking hot where I am for the day sets. Plus I have to con my wife to attend shows for 10 hrs, which isn't easy.

I love everything about music festivals (provided I like some of the bands).

Music, food, beer, hot girls and the chance to get blown away by artists you've never heard of.

I'm confused. We still talking about SXSW? It's in March and the weather is usually perfect for outdoor stuff, but even then, most shows are indoors.

but I don't like the short sets,

Smaller venue so I can get a drink and not miss any of the show and play the 10 songs I like and lets call it a night. My 45 minute drum solo days are behind me.

I’m not a fan of festivals either. I’m an odd concertgoer. I like to sit and watch the band, don’t really like standing much apart from the beginning and end, and don’t really dance around or like listening to other people be loud at the venue. Sounds like a stick in the mud I know, but I just like focusing on the band. As long as people aren’t being obnoxious I can generally have a great time.

This is pretty much me. I feel like I can concentrate on the performance much better if I'm sitting down and focusing on it. With some bands that doesn't matter all that much but listening to a performance by a band with a lot of musicianship is better done sitting, imo.

I don't really mind people grooving and dancing to the music if it moves them. That's just not how I prefer to do it. I do mind people talking non-stop all through the performance. If you want to waste the ticket price you paid by yakking and updating your facebook page, fine. Just go do it somewhere else and don't ruin my experience too.

Here's a question. How do y'all feel about bands that try to get a lot of audience participation going? Personally I think a little bit is ok but it can get annoying.

No, I was talking the festival I am going to this w.e.

Oh and shite is inside but those ACs can't keep up with the crowds.

I like about a 90 min set. That is about perfect to me, although most sets I see these days are around an hour. An hour + 10. Music festival sets are closer to 45 mins.

The only reason I like them is because I get to see bands I normally wouldn’t see on my own just play the hits. I like shortened sets

I like paying attention but you seem to take it pretty next level.

I don't get the jazz fest hate. When you go to the jazz and blues tents, it's a pretty intimate sit-down setting, and definitely all about the music. There are other small stages that will be chill as well. Even Wilco on the gentilly stage (2nd biggest stage) last year was pretty chill.

I can't guarantee you won't see some attractive females though.

I love festivals. Everything about it. Being outdoors, day drinking, listening to music, becoming best friends with new people that I’ll never see again. Best way to discover new bands. Can get exposed to live performances to several unfamiliar bands in a single day.

I enjoy live music just about anywhere. Could be at a festival or small venue. Doesn't really matter.
