Is Imagine Dragons just a reincarnation of Nickelback?

Coworker came in raving about the new Imagine Dragons album about how good it is. This guy has no musical knowledge whatsoever, but is apparently a big Imagine Dragons fan. Grant it, I haven't listened to their new album, didn't even know they had a new one released. That being said, their other stuff reminds me of Nickelback, the singer mostly raspy yelling rather than singing the whole time and most of their songs sound pretty similar. Just gets entirely too much play time on the radio IMO and going to turn into a meme or cliché'. What says the music board?

Nickelback is way better than imagine dragons
Sure that’s not saying much but everyone that’s 28-32 knows pretty much the entire “all the right reasons” album by nickelback

I think I only know those two songs because of football broadcasts. Nickleback was a pretty big mainstream rock band, at least for a couple years. I'm not sure how they became the cliche for pop rock, but I guess it's because they were kind of post-hairband. Though I couldn't name any of their songs off the top of my head besides Rockstar.

My two year old loves Thunder.... So that's one fan. Not even sure where he first heard it. Walks around the house saying "lexa Tunder pease"
