Shut you're WHORE mouth.

Maybe you are looking for Blues and shredding combo. He's not that. He's not SRV. His playing is sneaky good. Like a "girl next door" of guitarists. Watching him play, it doesn't look like he is doing much. Like a girl next door his playing looks doable. But it's really not. It's hard.

Perfect example of it not being the amount of notes he can cram in but the tone he gets from each note. Like a great Blues player. Add to that he is writing some damned catchy riffs and intros that are timeless. Tommy Emmanuel can play fricking circles around Clapton, but I can't name anything he plays.

Sucks that his hands finally got old. I always have YouTube.

most really good guitarists have a solo recording and/or video that shows the guitarist's finger-picking prowess or virtuosity, I'm not aware of any soloing of Clapton's that really impresses me

he is the iconic rock guitarist however and is very successful in the rock genre

my favorite guitar playing by him are on Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad trading licks with Duane Allman and the song Bad Love

I may be naive but how did he ride Duane Allmans coat tails?
Clapton was ready a megastar long before hooking up with Allman and Allman died shortly after they collaborated.

He's about as overrated as Neil Schon is underrated. The guy has a style that doesn't "blow" folks away but make no mistake he's one of the greatest of all time. I'd ask these same people in this thread who are bashing Clapton, what type of guitar player they consider George Benson to be? Arguably one of the greatest jazz players of all time, but a style that is more methodical and thought out. I guess these guys like the "angry bee" better.

Clapton is a notoriously terrible live performer. He must hate it because his shows are boring and short.

i heard Derek trucks on Marc marron podcast a few weeks ago talking about Clapton. He said something along the lines of how when he toured with him he couldn't figure him out (because he never really laid into it). Then he said out of the blue Clapton just started lighting it up and was floored. But what the frick does Derek trucks know?

Clapton's not overrated.

Have any of heard of Cream?

He started to morph into ballads and radio friendly soft rock in the 70's.

Cream was by far the best band he was involved with, but he was the weak link in the band.

Everyone take 30 seconds to listen to the OP's favorite band

Disco Biscuits "music"

This little kid clearly can point out pure talent when he hears it.
