They all hype him up like he’s on the level of Willie and Waylon, but man this stuff is girl music. Definitely won’t be on our Dallas Cowboys tailgate mix this season

I consider myself a grown man.

I don't care for his music. At all...

I'm not a big fan outside of a couple of songs but he's far better than most of the crap that's playing under that genre these days.

I liked him with the SteelDrivers

Good Corn Whiskey
Blue Side of The Mountain

even with The Jompson Bros

... but don't listen to pop country (spare me the J.Timberlake accolades).

So you don't like the guy because he's a "country music poser"? Please, tell me more.

He’s a breath of fresh air in a world of steeming cow shite pop country. He’s one of the few new artists on fm country radio that doesn’t absolutely blow chunks. Overrated? Maybe, but even being tolerable is an accomplishment these days in the modern Nashville.

This is reminiscent of the days when southern bros were like “dude, Zac brown Band is a breath of fresh air from that crap on the radio.” When ZBB was just more stripped down version of crappy pop county. Stapleton is just their “edgy” version of pop country

So you really don't have the ability or musical knowledge to tell me what exactly about his music you dislike other than......"it's a stripped down version of pop country."

I mean, If I started a thread on here slamming an artist or band, I would at least come up with something that helps others understand what exactly it is about the music that I feel sucks. Hell, even Kafka can claim that Steve Perry sounds like he's "screaming" when he sings.

Writes his own music
Actually plays an instrument (and is pretty good at btw)
Can actually sing and sounds great live

But yeah, he's just like all of other shite coming out of Nashville.

Same thing Zac Brown did...no difference. It’s a Nashville marketing ploy to get the bros that don’t want to admit they are listening to girl music

I love it when music genre “experts,” educate us about why an artist is popular, and provide an explanation that completely outs them as not knowing what the frick there talking about.

He released Traveller in May of 2015. It debuted at No. 2 but it didn’t certify as platinum until Feb of 2016... after a huge surge in popularity he experienced after a duet with Justin Timberlake who found him on YouTube and whose wife Jessica Biel had him play at her husband’s birthday as a surprise gift.

The duet happened over six months after his debut and re-entered the charts (it had dropped off long before) and saw a 6,000% increase.

Stapleton was a Nashville songwriter...and was not destined for stardom before Dave Cobb. Their collaboration is what made him who he is. But acting like that was some grand Nashville marketing plan is idiocy.

Thanks for identifying yourself as someone whose opinion we don’t need to take seriously. It’s one thing to not like him-hey there’s something out there for everyone. But making shite up to provide yourself some cover or confirmation bias? It’s pathetic.

Just say you don’t like him. But he ain’t Bro Country by any stretch. He’s covering Kris Kristofferson B-sides and insists on using his wife as backup vocals. That ain’t bro country and it sure ain’t a record execs idea of how to make money.

:writes half a novel explaining why Stapleton isn’t bro country:

It’s ok bruh, you like “edgy” chick music packaged by Justin Timberlake and Nashville

I'll at least give you a B+ for your trolling efforts. You got a few of us to bite. Good job.

Too much to read? I can try to write down to you’re level if you prefer.

I really DGAF what you like, or what you think of what I like. That’s part of being an adult. What I dislike if when people literally make shite up in an intellectually dishonest way...and I like calling them out for doing it. It’s a character flaw, I know. Can’t help myself.

To qualify my likes, I don’t do much contemporary country outside of Cody Jinks, Sturgill, Jamey Johnson, Ryan Bingham and just about anything Dave Cobb produces. Mostly I’m fixated on actual outlaw country from wayback.

But I do like me some Chris Stapleton. He’s so much better than the majority of the rest of contemporary country and much closer to the trad sound.

If you don’t like it, or actual factual responses-especially ones that clarify your made up fairlytale confirmation bias-feel free to downvote or scroll on by. But keep making up shite and you’ll get called on it.
