Has there been a band more self destructive than....

Pink Floyd?
I was listening to the Wish You Were Here album the other night and it just kills me that they broke up at the top of their game. I wish I could've seen them in concert....been a huge fan since I was about 5.
Self destructive bands that come to mind are the Beatles, GnR, and Oasis....are there any others I'm missing?

I wouldn't put Nirvana in the self-destructive category....the option to reunite never existed

i wouldnt call it self destructive. i would call it more disappointing. floyd made one of my favorite albums without waters (division bell), so i think they did ok

GnR is probably the most self-destructive. They could have been "The" rock band for the last 20-25 years if they could have avoided at least some of their issues.
The Kinks are another band that let it affect their career.

Sorry. Didnt know the rules. I think you could go with almost any band that broken up or lost a lead singer to a solo career. No Doubt comes to mind.

I agree Pink Floyd still produced after Waters left, but maybe they could've made a better run of it if they had gotten along.

I refuse to be disappointed by anything from Pink Floyd simply because the time they were together was so great. I'm just thankful they got together for the time that they did.

Really? I thought that was more of Gwen just wanting to branch off and do her own thing. I think they even got back together later on too....could be wrong though.

The Division Bell is one of my favorite albums of all time...

I have a hard time calling Floyd and the Beatles self destructive. All the living members and the dead ones families have ridiculously large bank accounts.

Iggy and the Stooges. When Iggy Pop ISN’T the biggest f-up in your band, you have problems. They are pretty much the model for dysfunctional bands, one that G’nR closely copied.
I don’t see how Floyd is even in the discussion. Sure, they sued each other a bunch in the 80s, a good 15-20 years into their band’s run. At that point, the band was a corporation.

Yeah, Floyd had a good lengthy run. IMO DSOTM was their peak, even though their next few releases were good too. The last REAL Pink Floyd album was The Final Cut, and that was just nothing compared to the previous work.
I can't get into any of the post-waters work. It was just so 80's and cheesy. Too much synth.

The Final Cut was essentially a Roger Waters solo record.
