I thought Izzy stuck it out.

No. Gilby is also in a lot of the music videos for the Illusion CDs as well.

Yea I was 11/12 when that CD, the Black Album, Nevermind, and Ten all came out. What a great year for music.

“With the crowd outside already getting rowdy, the guy then implied Axl wouldn’t go onstage that night unless we signed the documents.

I pictured people getting hurt if a riot started—at least that was my fear. And I was so fricking exhausted—it felt as I though I’d been dragging a house around behind me for the last two years. Besides, at the time I never thought GN’R could possibly exist without us. The idea seemed ridiculous. And in that case, maybe the documents didn’t need to be fixed?

frick it.
I signed. So did Slash.

Guns N’ Roses—the trademark now owned by Axl—took the stage.

The next day, I grabbed Doug Goldstein on the tarmac at the airport. I had woken up really upset about what had happened the previous night. Slash and I shouldn’t have signed those papers. But management wouldn’t let the whole thing go forward anyway. Right? I shouted at Doug, saying he needed to fix things.

“Look, Duff,” he said, “you’re a smart guy. I manage Guns N’ Roses.”
“Yeah, I know, Doug. And that’s why we have to—”
“No, you’re not getting it. I manage Guns N’ Roses.”

Guns N' Roses was terminal when Izzy Stradlin left. They could survive for a time without Izzy on stage, but they'd never survive long without his writing. It died when Slash left.

At least I got to see them at the PMAC on the Use Your Illusion tour with Soundgarden opening. Izzy was already gone by that time and Gilby Clarke was on rhythm guitar.

That's some mutant zombie G'n'R that Axl is currently insisting on foisting upon the world.

I think he is clean now but Sorum couldn't hold Adlers jock before he ODed. That's why he is go gimpy now. He took a lethal shot of heroin when Axl threw him out and almost died. GnR was a great band but Axl is bat shite crazy. From the start there was noting but drama surrounding him and most of the time, the rest of the band just went along for the ride and put up with it. Not sure what happened I. Axles head but that's what happens when something that big is controlled by an unstable weirdo

Matt Sorum >>> Steven Adler too

I think Sorum is probably technically better and more precise than Adler, but in that regard, so's a drum machine.

Adler had a swing that Sorum doesn't. Listen to the drum intro on "Rocket Queen" or that hell of a dirty drum line on "Mr. Brownstone" or the staggeringly simple drum entrance to "Paradise City". Matt Sorum's style is way different than that raw rolling style Adler had and Sorum could never write the licks that Adler did. It's one of the big reasons (aside from "Axl Rose is a batshit crazy a-hole") that the Use Your Illusion albums never had that raw "whoa" feel that Appetite for Destruction did.

Adler had soul. Sorum was really good but never could come up with what Adler could.

Rocket Queen is one of my favorites. Great musicians all around but I think Axl started to sound like crap live during Illusions and apparently he's gotten a lot worse.

It's because he did so much with production on those albums that there was no way he would ever be able to match the sound live.

The first albums weren't as over produced and it was pretty much his raw voice. Jungle is a good example of a song that he always did well live and it seems like it would be a hard song to match the recorded version.

Axle banged Adler's girl friend in the recording studio and recorded it. The sex sounds you hear on Rocket Queen is from Adler's old lady. Maybe that's why they don't get along.

Had no clue it was on, guess I'm glad I missed it. It seemed like forever I kept up with everything GnR,even when not much was going on. Last 5-6 years I haven't though, still seems like Slash is doing good.
