City spokesman Grant Brown says officials have gotten multiple complaints about the event.
GULF SHORES, Ala. — An Alabama town is reconsidering whether to allow a beachfront music festival that's become a staple on the northern Gulf Coast.
WPMI-TV reports that officials in Gulf Shores say citizen complaints may result in them not renewing a permit for the Hangout Fest in 2020. The weekend festival draws tens of thousands of people to the municipal beach each spring.

The first few years it had some great acts but it has gone downhill quickly

Might as well cancel it, lineup gets worse and worse every year.

How/why did they already set the lineup without getting the permit first?

I guess they hate all of the revenue the festival brings

That whole area has turned into a circus in the past 10-15 years anyway. What's one more festival?

The event use to be locally owned and brought in acts that would appeal to an older crowd. After it was sold, the new company began bringing in cheaper acts and a much younger crowd. The audience it attracts now is not even old enough to rent a condo. Most condo owners don’t want one 25 year old and 9 other 18 year olds crammed into their one bedroom condo.

That’s a good point about how they’re bringing in a younger crowd now. With acts like post Malone and Billie eilish.

Sounds like a Michael Lang event

so there is a chance they could turn it around to attract a slightly older crowd

The city does this every year. Nothing to worry about for Hangout fans. Not my kind of music anymore but I did go the first 5 years and it was fun.

Past headliners included Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Black Keys, etc. Here lately it has mostly been people that can’t attract an audience older than 23. I own vacation rental property in area and had a conversation a couple years ago with one of the city officials in Gulf Shores and he indicated they had no intentions of renewing the permit. Also was mentioned by the biggest vacation property management company in our HOA meeting this year that it wasn’t coming back. The reason cited was all the issues associated with the younger audience the past few years. The burden and expense on the area is pretty high for an age without much spending power. That and the desire to keep the area known as a family destination. I’ve been there most weekends the festival has occurred. The number of ambulances continuously leaving the festival is amazing. Had to take my daughter to the ER one evening when the festival was taking place. The doctors were exhausted, stating they had a drug overdose patient about every 10 minutes come in by ambulance.

I want Deluna Fest to return if we get to choose between two terribly run festivals in that area. Rock festival right on the beach in Late Sept-Early Oct? That’s been my favorite USA festival layout. Awesome temps. Literally nothing between you and the ocean. Just sand, rock music, and water.

Craft said he understands the concerns from the citizens of Gulf Shores.
Even though the contract is renewed through 2025, Craft said the city goes through a process of examination every year to decide how and if to move forward with the festival.
