So silky smooth that progresses through some variations of the same thing but at the same times, the song gets stronger and stronger

I’m going with Song on the Radio by Al Stewart. Song starts with Phil Kenzie’s alto hitting a high note and gets better from there.

As a side note, Kenzie also played the solos on The Long Run.

Edit: not greatest “sax song” just my favorite solo.

I always like Tender Years from Eddie and Cruisers soundtrack. Probably not the greatest but I always enjoy the sax intro in the beginning of that song.

I know everyone here thinks they’re original and more musically inclined by shitting on Dave Matthews Band but the sax dedication to Leroi Moore at the beginning of Groo Grux King is

Yea, that's it! Not just the greatest sax solo ever, but the ultimate jazz song of all time. And, very unusual 5/4 metre set a trend for off-metre recordings by jazz and rock and roll artists which lasts to this very day (remember "Money" by Pink Floyd)?

Europa was my first thought before I clicked on your link.
Spent many a romantic night with that song playing in the background in my younger days.

Us and them by Pink Floyd has the greatest sax solo of all time.

It also happens to be my favorite song of all time.
