Joke and troll all you want but if you're a musician and you want to do something with your craft you've got to move because you're not going to get the necessary support here

This. If you're a singer/songwriter, the money's in Nashville, not BR. I don't know how anyone who isn't super famous supports themselves on just music alone.

Have you ever thought that not everyone makes it?

Not every local band is going to be the next big thing, just like every film school reject isn't going to be the next Harrison Ford.

Every town in America has some group of guys that like to play music. But it isn't until they prove that they are a step above the others in town that people other than friends and family or people waiting for the headliner go and see them.

Sorry to break it to everyone

It's like eating at a bad restaurant often just because it is local.

No one here does and they don't do it in Houston either. Hell most don't do it in nashville, Austin, Athens, Raleigh or Portland either.

That's not what we're asking for. All we're saying is that baton rouge used to be an important music city and it can be again but people have to stop settling for what theyve been doing. It starts with the people passionate about music but in this town we can't even seem to get most of y'all out.

Maybe I'm jaded because I worked around all these guys trying to play music for awhile but I don't need to like a band to go pay a cover and drink a beer. Just support local original music.

Bring your girl dancing to Cafe Au Lait.

Come get fricked up with The Hitchhiker.

Go drink a straight bourbon while Clay Parker breaks your heart.

This is our scene. Support it and it will grow. Its not where I want it to be right now either but that's where y'all come in

The Houston thing was a typo and I already fixed it.

BR was a great music city because of blues and rock and roll, hard rock and roll and 80s metal. The BRPD and LSU's nazi fun police administration bear much of the responsibility by killing fun in BR.

This. If you want more people to come see the Hitchhiker, post their music on the OT.

I've already said that in this thread. No one in baton rouge presently is ready to take their respective genre to the national level just yet with the exception of maybe Jodi James.

However if you go and support you start breeding a good atmosphere. Then those that really are great and can do something stick around. And eventually people start moving here just to be apart of it.

But none of that is possible without people like the ones on this board going to see local artists and talking about them

As Panic and I said, most on here go and see local music in BR. We just joke around on here because this is not a serious place. If you really want to recruit more listeners, go set up flyers at the Greek Houses and dorms. Those kids are who you should be aiming for. Those are the people that settle for fricking Bag of Donuts at Fred's. Those are also the people who are going to spread the word if they like what they see.

People that post on the music board, are typically people that have their finger on the pulse of local music. It's your larger demographic you should be aiming for.

This. The key demographic in all of Baton Rouge to get to see your shows are the LSU Sororities. If you can get some sorority girls to see your show (and it's good), they will tell other girls. More girls will come and the fratstars will follow. The greeks pay good money for bands to play private events and those increase the notoriety even more. If you have a greek following, you can play tigerland bars and make even more money. Get the sorostitutes and you'll make it. Don't, and it's all about luck.

What I would recommend is some kind of advertising all along the LSU lakes and near Sorority Row. Something regarding Greek girls get in free or their first drink is on the band.

They'll drink that kind of stuff up.
