And these dumbass "Rogz" jokes are a prime example. The Rigs were a solid rock band. They weren't all world by any means but they were a very solid rock and roll band.

Y'all call yourselves music fans yet instead of supporting a local band, a member of which all of you had interactions with, you took the easy way out and turned it into a message board joke. Yet you never quit bitching about the lack of good original music in your city.

and yet "they" are never at the shows. that's what the thread is talking about.

people that just like to bitch, but they are never seen actually at the venues.

Exactly. They say all the bands here suck yet they can't even name one

I'm not driving an hour there and back to roll the dice on a band I've never heard of. Sorry. In this day and age a quick YouTube search will suffice, and to this point I haven't found any worth going to.

Those are all jokes because of TheDoc was in it and it is an inside joke here

I've honestly never heard them play.

You don't live here. This thread was obviously not meant for you from the very beginning

My point exactly.

You perpetuate a stereotype without even having a clue what the frick it is you're talking about.

You're just following along with crowd just like everyone else in this city. And honestly no offence intended but the sad part is you should know better

Because it is a joke. Had I known they were playing I'd go to it. I've probably seen more local bands in BR than anyone on this board without working at a venue.

People don't complain about the local acts. People complain about not having big names in the town. That is what they are looking for.

Please.

I guess you just know what good music is and everyone else is an empty soul.

You know why Austin and New Orleans and Nashville get big acts? Because they've built a music culture and musicians want to be there.

Build a local culture and guys like Woolsey and Bowen will have a much easier time getting the big names you want

It's easier said than done when New Orleans is right down the road. New Orleans is A LOT more appealing

No it just has everything to do with loving music and wanting to see it thrive in the city that I choose to live in.

Of course its more appealing. Its fricking new Orleans. We'll never be New Orleans but cultivating a music culture in this city will go a long way to bridging the gap

I'm at the shows. I was at Radiopalooza. I use to even play the venues. I laid out several reasons why BR doesn't get as much respect for its local music as many other places do. This is a one horse town. The problem isn't necessarily the quality, it's the genres where that quality resides. I would challenge you to find me a local BR "rock" band that actually rocks. Like actually plays loud, rambunctious, makes you feel like a badass rock. (Think "Howl" by Beware of Darkness if you want to know what I'm talking about). There's not much of this. There's plenty of good singer/songwriters, more than most cities of Baton Rouge's size, but that's not really my cup of tea nor is it the musical preference of most local people. The kinds of genres that have quality local music simply don't match up with the population (outside of country acts at the Texas Club), hence the lack of popularity.

I guarantee you. A fun, rambunctious rock act would catch on like fire because bars can have that kind of act and girls will want to dance to it. Girls go see bands they can dance to, and guys go to bars to bang girls. You get girls dancing, you will have a crowd. BR's original music doesn't really do this so much.

Or go back in time to the 70s and 80s when Baton Rouge was THE rock n roll city. It was where every rock act wanted to start their tour because they knew they'd get a sold out show and crazy fans every damn time.

The BR city council and LSU administration killed that as did the federal government strong-arming the state to raise the drinking age to 21. Baton Rouge never recovered. Throw in the construction of the UNO Lakefront Arena and the Cajun Dome and BR was doomed.

You need to go support Bob Browning playing guitar at Brightside Bar so the big name bands will call Bowen and ask to play at the Varsity
