Lots of people owned that decade though.
Fair enough, but DSOM was on the album charts consecutively for 937 weeks. That's 18 years and change for those of you in Rio Linda, California.
And, it is almost double the #2 to #6 albums and over double everything else. Those are monsters like Bob Marley's Legend, Journey's Greatest Hits, etc.

Oh i know DSOTM is probably my favorite album of all time (though that changes semi-regularly, its always up there).
That comment was more geared to the number of bands / artists which had incredible album streaks in the 70's.
Elton John
Pink Floyd
Rolling Stones
David Bowie
Neil Young
Stevie Wonder
All had great albums released throughout the 70's.
The Who, Zeppelin and Velvet Underground were putting out great stuff in the late 60's and into the early 70's.
Talking Heads late 70's and into the 80's
I'm sure i missed a few
ETA: listening to some Black Sabbath this morning and you can definitely include them = at least through the first half of the decade.

Aerosmith as well. And like you said there’s probably a lot of groups not listed that just cranked out great album after great album. Like him or hate him Springsteen comes to mind.

How do you pick a favorite Floyd song? Currently
Fearless
Corporal Clegg
One Slip
Pigs
Burning Bridges
I honestly would be OK if I never hear DSOTM again. So overplayed imo.

Hard to pick but Echoes is a masterpiece. Us and Them as well. Money is the song that convinced me to buy a guitar at 16.

On most days I would pick Dogs without hesitation. I'll go with Shine on you crazy diamond, I'm feeling a little introspective today.

Hard to pick one, but Have a Cigar is in the mix for me.
Has a cool sequencer riff through the verse, with Wright doling out electric piano stabs.
Then there are times that the Animals album sounds best to me. I truly dig parts of The Wall, but you have to admit there’s filler on there solely Intended to support the film.
DSOTM and WYWH must be listened to in their entirety. You can tell why those albums took so much effort to record. They’re each like a concerto with multiple parts, best listened from beginning to end.

So you remember when you were young?
Didn’t even catch that...

I listen to Floyd albums for experiences, not singles. The Wall is probably their best "singles" album, but with all the snippets for various elements of the film that you suggest. The Wall is almost equal parts rock music and performance art - Roger would embrace that for much of his solo career as well.

WYWH
With the exception of the title track, I agree - I listen to DOSTM, WYH and Animals as single units almost exclusively.

Dogs was my jam in High School.
I had a very...psychedelic experience to WYWH that was pretty transcendent as well. When they were on, they were untouchable.
Also "See Emily Play" is a perfect little pop song completely different from what would go on to make up the bulk of their catalogue.

I hear what you’re saying about The Wall. I’m not one to pick singles, but I prefer albums as just a sonic ecperience. The film aspects don’t really resonate with me. I can totally relate to Waters intent, I just think it falls short of the previous three albums. I think the film actually subtracts from the whole.
