I'll just repost my answer from 6 months ago, in a previous "Favorite Pink Floyd Song" thread:

Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict.
But seriously, the song immediately preceding it on Ummagumma: Grantchester Meadows

Goodbye Blue Sky
Mainly, just guitar and vocals. Haunting.

I’m not one to pick singles, but I prefer albums as just a sonic ecperience. The film aspects don’t really resonate with me. I can totally relate to Waters intent, I just think it falls short of the previous three albums.
Let me phrase it this way - The Wall ended up being a "double" album.
If it had been a single album:
Another Brick in the Wall (Pt. 2)
Mother
Goodbye Blue Sky
Empty Spaces
Young Lust
Hey You
Comfortably Numb
In The Flesh
Run Like Hell
Waiting for the Worms
Would your opinion be different?

Got high for the first time listening to that

I Robot was my first album I listened to while high. For some reason I also listened to a lot of Seals and Croft stoned.

Probably the best overall marriage of visual imagery and music in the film, too.

Yep. That would be a great album with no filler, but the theme would be lost. I really don’t have an answer. It’s just my own perception of how that album fits into my listening.
I’ll try putting it this way. I think the more autocratic the music became the more it suffered. I think it shows in the writing and the performances and ultimately led to the death of the classic PF.
Seriously, who in their right mind trivializes Rick Wright?

Yeah, I've always considered it as one musical odyssey.

To be fair, Rick's demons were getting him pretty good in the latter half of the 1970s and his production as a writer had dropped off. This opened the door for Roger to hear and believe shite he had no business believing. Roger has all but admitted to being wrong in recent years, even some statements before Rick died.
So, I get what you're saying and I've always maintained Rick Wright was soul of the Floyd. Roger might have been the words and David might have been the central "instrument" but most of those intangibles we think about that make Pink Floyd unique are Rick Wright related, particularly on Dark Side of the Moon - arguably the most significant "album" in rock history.
