Many of the bands listed in this thread, while born of a TV show or movie, did actually have recordings and performances. So, are they fictional?

I mean, unless we're talking about music generated by AI, at the end of the day someone played and sang the songs for any fictional band that has real music, so in a sense any fictional band can be considered "real" - but that goes against the clear premise of this thread. I think the best definition of a "fictional" band would be one which is (at least initially) presented as existing only within a larger work of fiction, so for instance Spinal Tap came into existence as part of This is Spinal Tap and Dethklok came into existence as part of Metalocalypse. Even though both of those bands later released albums and had live performances, they still qualify as fictional.

I can't believe I forgot one of the all-time best the other day when we did this. Good luck getting this one out of your head today.

You all everybody! You all everybody!

Not a band but a singer/songwriter. Willi Piper. I’m thinking about having AI finish his absolute gem “Desperate Times” but have some concerns about IP issues with RoJam records. S9/E10 of Murder, She Wrote.
