We are pretty much at the halfway point of the year. I feel it has been a pretty solid year. Anyone else enjoying anything this year.

3. Parannoul- To See the Next Part of the Dream
4. Home is Where- I Became Birds
5. Mdou Moctar- Afrique Victime
6. Wild Pink- A Billion Little Lights
7. Spencer Krug- Fading Graffiti
8. Manchester Orchestra- A Million Masks of God
9. The Hold Steady- Open Door Policy
10. Guided by Voices- Earth Man Blues

Honorable mention/need more time with:

Lord Huron- Long Lost
Japanese Breakfast- Jubilee
Ryley Walker- Course in Fable
Fiddlehead- Between the Richness
Nervous Dater- Call in the Mess
Really From- Really From
Could Nothings- Am I Something

Outside of Mdou Moctar and Parannoul (neither of which are English), I don’t really see what is so odd about these band names.

Jesus I’ve heard of the hold steady and that’s fricking it. This is alt as hell.

Edit: I could barely make it through half a song on your number 1 album. That guys singing is fricking arse

A few years back on a similar thread, I literally made up 10 band names and 10 corresponding albums.

Got a couple thumbs up, couple thumbs down, and not one person called me out saying they had never heard of any of the bands on my list.

I have no idea about anything on your list (maybe because I'm too focused on mainstream pop, but I'll gladly give them a listen), but I think my favorite album for the year is Lorde's Solar Power. It is not yet released as of now, but I just know that a new wave of pop is going to be unleashed. :D

Pretty deep-alt list. I'll check out Mdou Moctar based on the Pitchfork review. And Earth Man Blues to see if it's actually bluesy.

Manchester Orchestra's new one has 4-5 good songs on it. I listened to some more of Lord Huron's new one yesterday; need to listen some more too on that one.
Also like the new Black Keys, even though it's a covers album.

Heard Japanese Breakfast's Be Sweet on Sirius recently. Good dreamy dance vibe that should play well at our tailgates after the gals have had a few drinks.

The guitar play on that Mdou Moctar album is fantastic. Him being called the “Hendrix of the Sahara” is fitting. Other than it not being in English, I think it would have more appeal to this board than any other album I listed.

Earth Man Blues is not bluesy, but if you like GbV, it is a really solid entry in their massive discography.

Just looked them up. Didn't realize they've been around almost 40 years!

Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes are classic lo-fi indie rock records.

I have about a 10% hit rate on Seaward's stuff. 90% I find unlistenable but he has expanded my horizons.

Thus far, 2021 has sucked for complete albums. Maybe a Covid run off, production delays etc. Not sure. Just not a good full album cycle.

I've really been waiting for this one to be released physically, so I haven't listened... Superwolf was one of my favorite records of the 00's..

I got this one about ~month ago to see what it was all about... It's a pretty cool sounding record... I really like it, though I wonder how often in the coming years I will pull it out for a listen..
