No artist should be charging $1,200 per ticket.

That would be Slash. And I love Slash.

this is the result of indoctrination. this woman is absolutely insane
Clapton's guitar work when he was in Cream was some of the best rock and blues rock guitar ever recorded. After Cream, he seemed to concentrate on writing and composing great songs that did not necessarily need to feature what a great guitarist he was. A lot of his peers thought that he was changed after his heroin overdose.

Honestly, I’d venture very few of those sell at that price
You’ll get 3 hardcore fans that want the commemorative poster, laminate and 2 drink tickets packaged for diamond platinum vip seats but many will land as giveaways, promos and price reductions. Much of the floor is also likely much cheaper

Two reasons for this:
1. Artists are greedy
2. Fans are dumbasses
If the fans would stop paying those prices, the artists wouldn't be able to charge as much. However, as long as idiots pay those prices, the artists will continue to charge more and more.
This is all true and accurate. There's a reason credit card debt is at an all time high in this country; stupid people paying stupid prices for simple pleasures

$1200 is just nuts
Pretty sure I saw both Clapton and Roger Daltrey about 10 years ago for less than $200.
Of course, I also probably saw The Who for about $10 in the 1970s

Let me just say I do not understand why anyone would pay a lot to see Clapton these days other than to say they saw someone famous before he dies. Based on the last 20 years of touring he’s going to burn through a retread set list in an hour with minimal interaction with the crowd, no surprises, nothing fun. I wouldn’t pay top dollar for that.

here’s all you need of Eric Clapton
The bluesbreakers album he played on
the cream albums
“On tour” with Delaney and Bonnie album
All things must pass
Derek and the dominos
everything after that is MOR crap. And for the record “I shot the sheriff” might be the worst cover song in the history of music

I can actually remember the Stones coming to Clemson in '89 and tickets were $30 and i knew a lot of friends going and i said no way am i paying $30 for a bunch of old geezers and Steel Wheels wasn't a great album anyway and here they are still touring. I went to see The Eagles in 2020 Hotel California tour and it was pretty great. Joe Walsh and Don Henley were pretty damn good. Then I went to see ELO last summer and Jeff Lynne was showing his age.

I’m not ripping on seeing older acts. But Clapton in particular I don’t get the appeal of seeing these days. But then again I’ve never understood the appeal of much of his solo output.

I somewhat agree with your assessment, but there were few great songs after this time period, like The Core and Pretending.

Something with 2 legs thought highly of him, something with 4 legs not so much
