Wow, that's surprising. I was around 7 at the time and remember hearing it every now and then but don't remember it being a massive hit.

yeah even more cringe because its actually the 'disco single' remix of the star wars theme that hit the radio which is absolutely AWFUL.

there you have it, ladies & gentlemen.

Here's my WAG: Floyd Cramer - "Last Date"

ETA: Dammit, I should've known it was that crazy Meco disco cover of SW. My next guess was gonna be Fifth of Beethoven

When I was thinking Star Wars... it wasn't the Cantina Band Disco Remix.

First song that came to mind. It was huge when it came out

I would have guessed "Tequila"... if that's considered instrumental.

Music Box Dancer - Frank Mills

(ETA: I googled it after and, obviously, this isn't the correct answer. On the other hand, I own exactly 2 instrumental 45s - Music Box Dancer and the answer to the OP's question. The 70s were fricking awesome.)

(EFTA: Wait - I don't know if I have the "original" or disco remix of that single. May have to check.)

Looked it up. Some site said this is #6. Not a bad guess.
