It would’ve been a lot easier for Pink Floyd to replace David Gilmour. Don’t be silly.

Without John, the other Beatles were basically going to have to be Paul’s backing band. George in particular had no interest in doing that.

In fact, George didn’t work with Paul at all after the breakup, even though he did play with John and Ringo a ton.

The main reason they broke up is because they straight up just didn’t want to play together anymore. I believe George said in an interview that if you wanted to hear what the Beatles would sound like if they kept going, just listen to Wings.

Thank God they didn’t replace Lennon or anyone else and go on. As sad as it was when the Beatles broke up they would have been absolutely nothing like The Beatles without George Paul John and Ringo.

But it's been decades since Paul McCartney wrote a decent song.

Dennis Miller once said "I remember when 'Ram' was Paul McCartney's last good album, and a 'hard drive' was a trip to your mother-in-law's".

Thanks to George who either co-wrote or ghost wrote his first hits besides 'You're Sixteen'

No

He was brilliant in his writing and vocals.

...and a great rythm guitarist.

This is a really stupid question.

This is true but the same could be said about Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Don Henley, etc....McCartney has had more #1 albums & singles in his solo career than all the aforementioned combined. Actually, John Lennon and George Harrison had multiple #1 albums & singles in their solo careers too. Even Ringo has had (2) #1 singles. I can't think of any other band, besides The Beatles, where ALL of the former members had #1's in their solo careers, but I may me wrong?

That's true. I was just thinking that his last hits that I'm aware of were in the 80s(Ebony and Ivory and Say, Say, Say) and both songs were pretty terrible, compared to his other hits.

I don't think that the Rolling Stones have had a decent album since Some Girls in the late 70s.

You could not replace any of the Beatles, each piece was key to the whole band. They were perfectly put together, seemed like it was ordained from on high.

Well, they replaced McCartney after he died in that car accident. Music got better too.

Plastic Ono Band (my personal Lennon solo fave)
Ram
All Things Must Pass

Revisit those 3 albums today, compare them to modern music today, and I think it could easily be argued that ATMP would come in dead last in any list.

Ram is a goddamn masterpiece and the early influences it's had on indie music all these years later (whether today's artists realize it or not) is undeniable.

POB is an incredibly personal piece of music. A lot of artists lay it all out in lyrics but rarely in such literal terms. Incredible record.

ATMP is a fantastic record. I truly do love it. But, to me, it's very much a period piece. I don't think it has many of the elements necessary to age well. Also, every recording I've ever heard of that album is bad....loud and tinny. That's not a knock of GH, but it consistently sounds like shite.

John wanted to replace George with Eric Clapton after George quit during the Get Back sessions.

That’s because he’s the greatest Beatle.
