Probably because you only associate with other angry old boomers who scream at clouds.

Agreed, but enough people like them that they probably deserve a top 10 inclusion.

I’ve never met anyone who likes U2

Early U2 was fantastic. It was a fresh and groundbreaking sound. From Joshua Tree through the mid 90’s they were the biggest band in the world. You could throw GunsNRoses in there with them but that’s about it.

1-4 correct.

5 doesn’t belong in the top 20. Great band, but not one of the greatest rock bands. Having a gay lead singer that died of AIDS gets you up the list, I guess.

6-8 are not rock bands. The argument could be made that early Fleetwood Mac was, but it went way pop and never came back. Same with U2. And the “The Edge” is almost the most overrated guitarist ever. Up there with Prince. Sly and The Family Stone is just not a rock band. But DEI.

9-10 are rock bands, but Sabbath likely gets a kick up the chart due to Ozzy being in a TV show. I won’t argue with Nirvana at 10. They were highly influential and introduced a genre of rock to the nation.

Others not included that perhaps should be (just off of the top of my head):

The Who
Allman Brothers Band
The Eagles (although some pop)
Jimi Hendrix Experience
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Yardbirds
Cream
AC/DC

And if they must include pop rock, The Beach Boys should be up there.

Some of those are on the list just farther down. It's a top 50.

Nirvana being ahead of Van Halen...........come on!

Nirvana is the most overrated band in the history of music.
So they were around what 3 or 4 years? And if he doesnt die.......maybe what another 2 or 3 before that music goes away??

Compare VH's live show to that crap.

The Osbournes TV show is pretty independent of Black Sabbath being a massively influential band. They actually did create a new genre of rock. I would probably put them at number four. Nirvana doesn't belong in the top ten. You say they introduced a genre of rock to the nation but that's a load of crap. Grunge as a genre is currently nonexistent, a flash in the pan, ended by a shotgun blast.

Where’s Metallica?!

They’re at least as big as half the bands in the top 10 and still going strong, today.

And the further we get from Cobain’s passing, the smaller Nirvana’s legacy appears, in my eyes.

They basically had only two albums, not including demos and live albums.

No one with that limited production should be included in any discussion of the best bands.

They are propped up as the best of the big grunge bands, but I think they were the worst.

Absolutely

And if he (Sly) didn't pass away recently, they wouldn't sniff the top 100.

This is pretty close to where I'm at. Nirvana was wildly influential on that single generation of rock and roll, but, frankly, do not have the broader cultural impact of either The Who or The Eagles.

While I like Sly and the Family Stone, their ranking this high on a Rolling Stones list is for the same reasons that Salt-N-Pepa (whom I am not picking on, I like them as well - they're neither rock nor roll) is in the Rock HOF and Iron Maiden isn't.

I might tweak the order some also, moving Sabbath higher and U2 lower.

U2 is definitely a "bubble" Top 50 band for me. I respect their fans and body of work, however douchey Bono is.

Not having Lynyrd Skynyrd at least in the Top 50 makes the list bullshite. At least they have Allman Brothers.

Feel like Def Leppard and Aerosmith are too low.

It's obvious that whoever made that list had their marching orders. Multiple Spanish language bands ranked, female bands ranked way too high, etc.

These kinds of lists are all click bait, but this one is egregious.

There are too many retarded examples to name.

The Smiths should have been ahead of a lot of those top 50 bands.

I like your changes. I'd also bump up the Allman Brothers and REM and knock down Fleetwood Mac.
