What are some of your 5, 10 best music towns? Take everything in to account. Quality of the music, diversity of music, historical significance, number of artists or performers there, ability to attract huge concerts, number of music venues, festivals, number of recording studios, being known for a particular style of music, etc...

Nashville. Country music is like # 5 on my list of preferences. The answer is still Nashville.

As far as checking out a decent club-level band on any given weekend, Asheville is pretty reliable.

Are we only talking about US cities? Otherwise, places like Vancouver, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Stockholm, and London should all be ranked pretty high.

I say this respectfully, but that's a joke. We struggle to sell out many super legit shows that do sell out in other regional cities. Beyond brass bands and "New Orleans" music, I think it's a myth that this is a legit music town.

Fair enough but when I ponder the question "What town has a great music scene?" one criterion that won't affect my answer is how many shows sell out there. More important to me are things like how many locals bands there are, number of venues, things like that. By those metrics, New Orleans is clearly top 5 in the country.

Denver gets a ton of national act shows because it's the only major city for a pretty large radius and because it has some good venues. But I wouldn't say that Denver has a great music scene.

What does "super legit shows" mean? Because NOLA doesn't sell out the shows at the dome shouldn't be an indicator of what makes a good music town.
