Maybe the local scene, but Red Rocks is better than any venue in Louisiana and draws top acts that we don't. New Orleans is starting to get its footing back, but it gets skipped over on a lot of big US tours now.

Is Cumberland Caverns considered part of Nashville?

Red rocks is the best venue I've ever been to, and will be in every top 10 venues in the country list

But it's not just about a venue or venues. Nola has some pretty sweet venues, not on the level of RR, but pretty good. Tips, Saenger, Orpheum, civic theatre, etc. and they are making amphitheater last I heard. I haven't read any updates on that recently

I would say no. McMinnville is around 2 hours away. I'd consider the Bonnaroo festival to be apart of Nashville as you are only 50 minutes - 1 hour away (and the numerous amount of shuttles that run to and from).

Bluegrass Underground, to me, is its own thing and just a hidden gem in the state of Tennessee.

I think this has been cancelled since Champions Square started booking more shows. That will have to suffice as our outdoor venue. Better than nothing I guess.

It's really, really cool. I saw Railroad Earth there.

one criterion that won't affect my answer is how many shows sell out there. More important to me are things like how many locals bands there are, number of venues, things like that.

This

San Francisco Bay Area has a good local scene and it runs the gamut from Indie to metal to country to avant garde experimental to classical to jazz to blues. And then every touring band from big acts to smaller, obscure acts play there. And they have more awesome venues than anywhere I've been.

I love to shite on New Orleans but it is absolutely top 5. Historic importance, still a great scene, and great venues. Selling out a Taylor swift show or any other massive act (New Orleans still does this) isn't important to me.

New York for discussions like this just isn't fair because every single night of the year you can find someone to see. It's overwhelming how much shite there is to do in that city.

New Orleans gets by off of its history. What holds New Orleans back is its local music scene, surprisingly. New Orleans has its own brands of music, Brass Bands and Bounce. Those groups fill venues and export as well. However, New Orleans's rock scene is relatively lacking compared to those other cities. Why? It doesn't draw. There's a fair number of local rock bands, but they don't consistently fill venues in the city. Most of the people in the city going to see live local music want Brass bands playing the same jazz standards that have been heard in the city since Satchmo, or they want Bounce. Rock simply isn't what they want to see. There are plenty of venues and bands, but they're rarely full when just local original lrock bands are playing (Anders is the exception).

Hey, at lest the rock scene there is better than Baton Rouge
