Nirvana Unplugged is when I finally heard just how musical they were. Prior to that I found them fun, but it was so overproduced with distortions that it was difficult to appreciate the song craftsmanship. Unplugged opened all of that up and gave me a greater appreciation of their work

This. Why did I have to by a Japanese import in order to own it on CD? That was weird. But that show kills.

That’s what tied it all together. New song for everyone. His original fans all had kids by then, adult kids. And new fans he was making had a new song they could listen to.

KISS with the reunion and 3 songs together at the end.
They may not have much of a following on this board but I thought The Cure had a wonderful unplugged show.
Also, someone mentioned STP earlier. Weiland said he considered that version of Plush his greatest vocal performance ever.
They really did have some amazing shows those first few years.

Yes, The Cure was a great one.
I thought John Mellencamp's was really good as well.

Elton John's is my personal favorite.

Interesting notes from the list of every MTV Unplugged on Wiki.
Squeeze, my favorite 80's band, was on the first episode on Halloween 1989.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Satriani together Jan. 1990. I'd pay a lot to see that today. Available online?
How'd I miss that Allmans show in Nov. 1990?
Yes, Macca rocked it in Jan. 1990.
The famous Clapton episode was Jan. 1991. I didn't see it live but bought the CD after hearing it at a gift shop in the French Quarter. They wondered why I was lingering so long.
Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood in 93 was excellent.
Dennis Leary? Really? Looked it up...Legit show--did the a-hole Song, among others. Video seems to be protected online.
Melissa Etheridge was great--Springsteen came out for Thunder Road
Amazing how many of these they did in the first 10 years. Definitely eased up after that. I guess they couldn't fit the music in between all the Real Worlds, Teen Moms, and Jersey Shores.

Best MTV Unplugged
I’ll go ahead and get the Nirvana
I hate the entire Unplugged movement. It's what makes people want to play the acoustic version of Everlong instead of the crushingly rocking true version.

Alice in Chains, nirvana, and pearl jam are my top 3 and I don't really think it's close
