Here’s another one that may cause me to get flooded with downstrokes but this under appreciated shredder hails from my favorite band that damn well should be in the Rock Hall by now just based on record sales alone.

If record sales were a basis for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Madonna would be inducted.

What? You are fricking kidding me.

I've noticed Anastasio isn't getting the same sort of love that Gilmore and others (rightfully so) are receiving in this thread. IMO, he is absolutely one of the best. You can't see one of their live shows and not totally get hooked. Looking forward to this weekend..

Apparently, you don’t care for their genre of music and I have no problem with that. However, you cannot deny the mark they have left on rock n roll history. They’re in the same league as the Metallica’s and the Guns ‘N Roses’ of the world based on record sales and that you cannot dispute.

Anybody with any sense can tell the Rock Hall is a political frickin’ disgrace. That’s the reason there are so many deserving bands eligible and have either been nominated and not gotten in or are eligible with no nominations.

Yes, Hendrix was an unbelievably talented southpaw blues guitarist and Eddie Van Halen needs no intro shreddin’ that 5150 Strat.

How about George Lynch?

All that said, Mick Mars does not belong in this conversation.

With bands such as Rush, YES, and Deep Purple, these arguments don't hold as much weight as before.

Eddie Van Halen is the best of all time and its not close.

When people learn the guitar they go to Eruption..............and not one of them can touch it.

Listen to some of the non-popular songs such as "Hear about it Later".

He's good, but I wouldn't put him up in the same class with guys like Eddie Van Halen, Paul Gilbert, or Steve Vai.

It's all subjective anyway.

I could name my top 5 and perhaps one of them might be on your list. Does that make my list wrong or yours more right or complete? Not really. One of my guitar hero's put it this way (concerning soloing), what you play and what you like to hear others play, is a collection of what you are exposed to, and it's this range of emotion that's evoked when you listen. Basically what we musically appreciate (or chose to play) is not going to be the same because our experiences are not the same. So ULTIMATELY he went on it just means we need to experience more.

You’re exactly right. Every baller on this board has different favorites based on personal tastes/styles/genres.

Nobody mentioned Slash or Zakk Wylde

Brent Mason and several of the other studio guys doing the work in Nashville are probably among the best players on earth in any genre.

Perfect example along with Waddy, Lukather and scores of other cats most folks have never heard of. Mason is a freaking MONSTER. He literally scares the shite out of other guitar players.

Chet Atkins was tapping on the fretboard twenty years before Eddie Van Halen was born.

How about “Ain’t Talkin Bout Love”?

Other than “Crazy Train” that’s got to be one of the best metal riffs ever.

This is an impossible question, and I can’t believe it took so long for Hendrix to be thrown out.

David Gilmore produces the best sounding lead guitar.

Synyster Gates is the best heavy metal guitarist.

Jimmy Page and Eddie VH tie for playing the best riffs.

Prince may be the most musically gifted guitarist to ever play.

Then there’s guys like Buckethead, Tom Morello, Slash, and Trey Anastasio - how do you say ones really better than the other?

It’s all subjective anyway.
