Video I shared earlier of Booker T and the MGs doing Time is Tight … did anyone catch who was checking them out in admiration from below the stage?

Green Onions and Moby Dick are good ones. Another favorite:

The only downside to this one, is it's length. It's just a bit too short.

With that being said, we made it to page two without this one?

Van Halen - Eruption

And I'm not sure it's my FINAL answer, but high praise has to be given to this one.

Glenn Miller - In The Mood

While all the other songs listed in the thread so far are good and you can make a strong argument for all them, In the Mood defined the sound of an entire generation, arguable the greatest generation in our countries history...

"Tubular Bells"

didn't he write it when he was 17, record it at 19 and play most if not all the instruments? or something close to it.

I listen to a lot of instrumental music so it's hard- it seems this is Instrumental Rock only based on all of the responses.

If we move slightly out of the rock genre, I think Big Country by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones is a good candidate. Just a perfect "audio cinematography". If you go searching for it on youtube, the live versions are better.

Does it count if most of a band's output is instrumental?

No Stevie Ray Vaughn? No great blues players?

No jazz? Dave Brubeck? Miles Davis? Coltrane?

I almost posted Coletrane's giant steps, but I figured it's utter brilliance and complexity would go over the heads of most folks here...
