Andres Segovia, pop rock guitarists can't hold a candle to classical guitarists.

Brent Mason makes his living doing counrty session work.

Jack Pearson, the almost un-known Allman Brothers guitarist.

Greg Koch, he reallly defies description.

J.D. Simo, another nashville player.

These four guys are incredible, and can play any genre.

It took 4 pages before Iommi is mentioned and no one mentioned Frusciante?

Frusciante never gets the recognition he deserves.

Chet Atkins. As Martin Mull would say, "it's just licks off of records that I learned".

The world's greatest guitar player is likely someone nobody has heard of. It's all subjective. My favorites are SRV, EVH, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark and Billy Gibbons.

My personal favorite.

Robert Johnson is the GOAT though.

My personal favorite.

The lingering lead is definitely something that cannot be duplicated.

My all time favorite is Gilmour. Is and always will be.

Knopfler is second on my list. I am also really loving current Joe Bonamassa.

Take 7 minutes and listen to Jerry Garcia do stuff with a guitar that should be illegal due to his simple brillance!

Jeff Beck--can play rock, jazz, blues, techno, rockabilly, can do instrumental versions of Amazing Grace, Over the Rainbow, and Nesson Darma and completely transform them into his own.

Came to post this. What’s up with him not being on page one? I get that his catalog is small but the dude was a legit musician. I read he was tired of ozzy antics and was going to fulfill his contract agreement and then leave the band but he had the plane crash before that could happen. Randy and Ronnie Van Zant are my two “wonder what could have been” if not for the plane crashes.

I’ve seen BB, Clapton, Derek Trucks, Sonny Landreth, Jerry Reed, Gatemouth, Jack White, Jeff Healy and many others. Not sure I could pick just one.

One person I saw at Tips one time after Jazz Fest was Tim Reynolds. He is undoubtedly one of the best.

Jeff Beck--can play

Not the same, as have dominion of. Setzer schooled him on rockabilly, when Beck invited him up for the oft expected tête a tête, wherein the gob smacked invitee would finish with an appreciative and thankful goodbye.

Beck was mesmerized, and couldn't figure out some things Setzer was doing (and it showed in his face). Plussed and jangling along, at the end.

Setzer was gracious, however.

He certainly had of the most unique sounds of all time. Master of the volume medal. You had to hear him live and in person to truly appreciate his unique greatness.

I don’t believe it’s possible to name the greatest based on the different styles and genres available to listeners.

Rock, fusion, traditional jazz, country, blue grass, R&B, blues, metal. No one guitarist is the greatest in all those categories.

Some of my personal favorites
Steve Lukather
Brent Mason
Neil Schon
Clapton
SVR
Prince
Larry Carlton
Beck

FIFY. This should be broken into genre. For Flamenco I present Calos Montoya. Amazing guitarist.
