"Keith Richards"

Agreed

While not technically "the best", he is far and away the most important guitarist during the "rock and roll" era.

Btw, IMO the best guitarist is Laurence Juber. ...ever

Graham Parsons

He created the sound that became California Rock/country rock/ alt-country and influenced countless bands including The Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Brown, REM, The Smiths, Uncle Tupelo and the entire "Texas Country" and "Red Dirt" genre.

Keith Richards notes that Parsons' recorded music output was "pretty minimal." Nevertheless, Richards claims that Parsons' "effect on country music is enormous" and adds that this is "why we're talking about him now."

Overall best is going to be Edward Van Halen. Most of the guitarist listed in this thread would also tell you that.
For those listing bass players, look no further than Geddy Lee. But he will tell you it's Jaco.

Yep, he created that sound with his guitar. That's why all those guitarist in bands mentioned earlier copied him.

While I've disagreed w/you before, I've never seen you post anything so preposterous. Clearly you are trolling.

My participation in this conversation will now cease.

EVH was asked what he thought about being the best guitarist in the world?

He said you mean Roy Clark.

Duane Allman. Absolutely outrageous. If you didn’t hear him live, improvising, supporting, leading, accenting…..then I can’t describe it. He made everyone who heard him better. Can’t ask for more than that.
There’s others I love, Clapton, Betts, Buchanan, Santana, Hendrix…..but Duane was one and only.
