Texas is filled with horrible people to be around though.
Coming from a bamma native... Really, I don't get the hate for Texas. I can understand being annoyed with how proud they are about their state, but is that really such a bad thing? I've lived in TX for almost a decade and I've had less issues with people here than I did in south LA.

NOLA has better music culture and more overall music.
Austin is a better place to see pretty much all of my current musical interests play live.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Tampa or Miami, lol. Is Florida not part of the south anymore? Tampa's got the Ampitheatre, Janis Landing, a shite load of big parks that artists play at. NOLA>MEMPHIS>NASHVILLE>TAMPA
Y'all cut it out with Atlanta, lol. Nobody cares to even visit that dump of a city. And Charlotte isn't even in the south. Especially if you are discrediting Austin and Texas as being in the south. WTF,

How exactly does NOLA have more music than Austin?

I think NOLA is more music driven overall, especially historically. More locals making music for a long time. Austin is probably the base for more music that is coming out now, and more big acts. My overall point was that I could see more music I truly cared about in Austin.

Much higher quality. Austin is littered with hipster bullshite bands and a plague of red dirt crap.

For sure. Asheville Civic Center is money.
I haven't made it there yet, but I love the Orange Peel and Grey Eagle... plus what they've done in Pack Square is pretty awesome for Shindig.

The Triangle in North Carolina has been an incredibly vibrant indie rock scene for a long time... It was to the 90s, what Athens was to the 80s...

From my experiance Nashville followed by Austin then N.O. There are more live acts on a sat. night in Nashville than any other place on earth.

Nashville has got to be up there...

Never been 2 acl so I don't know, just know texas sux and breeds a bunch of melvin's that nobody actually enjoys hanging out with.
Go to acl dude. Shits 1000x cooler than buttfricking frat boys in Tuscaloosa
acl is a very well run festival ... they limit the tickets and have moved it to later in the fall so it's not as hot ... and you can get some decent concerts after hours at the different places like stubbs bbq ...

Sorry folks,
For food, it's
1. New Orleans
2. Austin
but for music it's (by a long shot)
1. Austin
2. New Orleans
Oh, and why hasn't there been any mention of Muscle Shoals, AL ?

Austin by far. New orleans probably has more live music per capita than any other place but its not that diverse.
As much as I love new orleans, if I wanted to be in a city for music, I would take any of the big cities in the south over new orleans - dallas, houston, Atlanta, Charlotte. they are going to get more touring acts just due to the size of the city.
