What does that even mean?
A super group is a very intentional amalgamation of already-famous band members into a "super group".

Damn Yankees (Styx, Ted Nugent)

Traveling Wilburys (Harrison, Dylan, Petty, Lynn)

Cream

Bad Company

Temple of the Dog

Mad Season

etc.

It means when well established members of bands come together to form another group. EXACTLY what Audioslave is... Like Velvet Revolver, Temple of the Dog, A Perfect Circle, Alterbridge, etc...

I understand what the definition is, but I don’t understand how that label somehow negates them from fitting into this category.

“Best Bands that formed after..,”

Did Audioslave form after? Or no?

Bc they are a supergroup and a side project. They were still rage and came back together in 2007 for a reunion tour.

It doesn’t, they fit in this thread as a great band that formed after a member left regardless of it becoming a Supergroup

Also Rage < Audioslave

Yes I guess you can say they were still Rage but they definitely broke up as a band and then reunited

Yes, they broke up... which I think is another distinction. Its not like Zach died or just quit and never returned. Members started to look for other things to do, like play with Ozzie and Macy Gray, but then decided to come back together to form Audioslave with Cornell.

In a weird way you can also say Uncle Tupelo > Son Volt since the latter was formed with the original UT drummer..

From OP: Best Bands that Formed after a Member passed away from the Original Band (or left the band)

How does Audioslave not fit this criteria?

Because Audioslave wasn't an iteration of either Rage or Soundgarden. It was an entirely separate project - a super group.

Good one.

Kyuss < Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA was originally a nickname given to Kyuss by their producer). Kyuss also became Screaming Trees and Eagles of Death Metal but i think only one member formed a new band so not sure that counts. Kyuss also lead to the awesome Desert Sessions 11&12.

Yes > Asia

Radiohead > The Smile

This doesn't really make sense.

Huh? Screaming Trees came before Kyuss... Homme joined the Trees briefly as a second guitarist after they had already been around for over a decade...

Cream > Blind Faith (Clapton and Ginger Baker)

Not sure about Foo Fighters, it's only Grohl from Nirvana proper, but also at least one of the touring band members.

Here’s one that’s obscure. The original name of the Red Hot Chili Peppers was

> Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem

They changed their name to RHCP after their very first gig. Original guitarist Hillel Slovak died of an OD
