Anyone catch that either last night on HBO or HBO Max? I watched this morning. What a talented group of songwriters and performers. I feel really bad for Barry. You can tell Andy, Maurice, and Robin's deaths affect him hard

Yeah, when he says he would give up all the hits if he could have his brothers back...

I saw this about a year ago, from early in 2019.

Nobody (not even Elvis or The Beatles) was as hot as the Brothers Gibb for that 12 or so month period of time, particularly when you consider how much more competitive the charts were in the late 70s compared to the mid-50s to late-60s.

Starting with the week ending July 30, 1977, when Andy Gibb's I Just Want to Be Your Everything hit #1, either he or his brothers had the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100, 28 out of 53 weeks - and that was 5 different songs between the 2 acts - of the 25 weeks that neither Andy nor the Bee Gees had the #1 song during that run, 10 weeks was by Debby Boone with You Light Up My Life.

From a pop chart standpoint, that's beyond impressive.

Andy's monster 1978 hit, Shadow Dancing closed out that run of dominance by the Gibbs as recording artists. A few weeks later, Grease, by Franki Valli hit #1 for a couple of weeks. As you might know, written by the Bee Gees.

During the 25 weeks mentioned above, (10 of which, again Debby Boone), Yvonne Elliman's If I Can't Have You was #1 for a week, also written by the Bee Gees and also featured in the film and soundtrack, Saturday Night Fever.

They had an incredible run of hits in the mid to late 70's . I was a rock n roll guy but many of those songs bring back good memories of those days when I hear them today.

I watched it last night... They were a prolific band... I always thought it was a shame that they are primarily remembered, to most people, for the SNF soundtrack.. though I'm sure their bank accounts aren't!

That was great!
To think they knocked out the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack in a couple hours
I had no idea the songs they wrote for all those other artists

They were well known in music circles as workaholics. The twins practically shared a creative brain and Barry was, by all reports, a great leader. They enjoyed the work and couldn't imagine doing anything else.

I like this one:

LINK

Has some songs that were covered, Islands in the Stream, Grease, as well as Guilty, and Don't Throw it All Away with a video of Andy. Really nice listen.

I was more impressed by how they didn't actually write anything until they entered the studio. Everything was done on the fly.

A lot of people shite on The Bee Gees for their disco era stuff and it pisses me off. They made a ton of great music, regardless of genre.

Also disco was great. Listening to old disco records, the arrangements were so inventive, and it was unfairly shite on, for reasons I can't really understand.

The horn players from Chicago played on the Spirits Having Flown album as Chicago was recording their Hot Streets album next door. When they were ready to record, trombonist and usual arranger James Pankow asked Barry where the horn charts were. Barry apologized, went over, and wrote the horn music in a matter of minutes. Barry's genius blew Pankow away

How Deep is Your Love is awesome. I wasn't aware of their pre-disco stuff until a few years ago. It's great!

I watched the Doc this weekend & loved it. If you want to be entertained go to YouTube & look up Bee Gees reaction videos. The majority of the younger people reacting to their songs seeing what they look like & hearing them for the first time can’t believe they are white.
