My Morning Jacket
Jim James is over rated as frick and terrible live unless you are high.
The National
They make pretty good tunes but the lead singer drones horribly. Like the dude can only sing 2 notes.

Pretty Shitty Singer
He’s bad now. He sounds like hell and he looks like garbage. Probably about 50-60 pounds overweight and he relies on the audience to sing the majority of the lyrics for him and you can tell he’s just going through the motions to collect a paycheck as a solo artist.
But....
In his prime, that SOB was one of the best frontmen on the planet. He had the vocal range, looked like a rock star and knew how to work the audience.
I miss that guy.

Television. Tom Verlaine just can't really sing. Lloyd even suggested he take lessons.

I'm sorry but I vehemently disagree. You don't have to be singing wild scales to be considered a good singer. I love this voice and he is a great musician
Their tiny desk is great. And while you may not like it because of the few notes he sings, that's precisely why I like it lol. His tone is very soothing and rare

I saw them earlier this week and I was actually very surprised by how damn good the lead singer was live.

Sorry.....watched their Austin city limits show and was blown away by how shitty he sung.

That said, Peart lyrics >>>> Dylan lyrics.
Errrrr.....yes and no. Just saying Dylan lyrics is like saying words in a dictionary. Peart lyrics are better than Dylan at his C- level or worse. That probably covers about 30 or 35 percent of Dylan lyrics. Dylan on his game though kills Peart or anybody else's lyrics. Also, unless you actually own a ton of Bob Dylan albums you probably haven't heard his best lyrics. The guy has to have written about 500 songs by now and you might hear five of them on the radio, six if you count Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower.

I loved Styx when I was 12.
I loved Zeppelin when I was 14.
I love The National now.
I respect most of those trashed here: Lee, Hetfield, etc.
Bob Dylan has written more astounding, honest, and poignant songs than virtually anyone (whether Freewheelin', or Highway 51, or Blonde, or Blood on the Tracks, or Modern Times - amazing).
I think it's more about whether or not the vocalist feels the lyrics (Tom Petty) than whether or not he or she has a wonderful voice.

you didn't listen to Dylan for his voice but rather the rarified content of what he sang.

I may take some flak for this but my vote is for Cream. Eric Clapton is not a horrible singer per se but his voice is just kind of meh. I would much rather hear him play than sing.

Most of the lead vocals in Cream (everything but Crossroads as far as I know) were Jack Bruce, not Clapton.
