Anybody have any luck selling guitars on Reverb?

I just listed 3 guitars on there, it's the first time I've ever done that.

I sold a pedal on there. They said I would get a free gift with my first listing,

I never got a damn thing.

I've listed 3 on Reverb, sold one without problems

2 of them I ended up selling off Reverb to avoid fees after discussion with buyer

On what you listed, I'd assume you exhausted regional CL and Facebook Marketplace listings first. I say that only because CL and FBM ads are free to place with no commissions due the host(s). If I were located where you are, I'd be tagging my sales for Huntsville, Birmingham and even Nashville. You know we will drive a little ways to get what we seek.

Some people bitch about Reverb's fees, but 5 percent is extremely reasonable for the market, views and services Reverb provides buyers and sellers. They also have great buyer and seller protection and mediation in the event the two parties don't see eye to eye.

Disclaimer: Reverb.com also steers to The Fret Shack buyers in our market whose purchases were damaged in transit. For damage appraisals and estimates and/or applicable repair work in which they ultimately cover the bill if their buyer protection rules apply. So I am admittedly biased because they respect and support me too :)

As for eBay, I only buy there nowadays and I haven't sold a guitar there in probably over 10 years. They ALWAYS side with the buyer in disputes, and subsequently eBay is plagued with con artist buyers who have figured out how to manipulate eBay's schtick and hold sellers' feedback and subsequent reputation hostage.

re: Anybody have any luck selling guitars on Reverb?
I've listed on some of the guitar forums. I'm not on Facebook so I can't use that. I had not considered Craigs List though. Thanx for reminding me.
The local market for selling guitars isn't great right now and I don't mind paying the Reverb fees, if it will help me move some things.
It's gotten to the point where I've got to move some stuff... You know.. that E sries Strat would be a great one for you
Then I could get a set of your telly pickups for my thinline.
I put on my listing that I would personally deliver within 200 miles of home.
All jokin aside, my photos of it are terrible, but that Strat is really nice. It's hard to believe it's nearly 40 years old.

The Epiphone Frontier already has 6 watchers since I listed it last night. I guess that's a good thing.

Advice from a guy who worked in advertising, marketing and promotion for 20 years prior to opening his own guitar workshop ...

Take GREAT photos and if you don't know how or don't have the camera or camera phone to do so, or the eye for it, find someone who does and/or can and get them and their camera involved. VERY important.

Simply put, great photos sell your goods quicker and for top dollar compared to comps, which means you don't end up relisting at a lower price to entice interest.

Inversely, I don't care if you are selling guitars, used cars, furniture, a house, a travel destination ... nothing derails interest in your wares more than poor photos.

Yep, I know you're right.
I think the telly photos are good enough, but I'm probably going to get my friend to take better photos of the Strat and Epiphone today, to replace what I have already posted.

Try CL as well. Last guitar I bought was on Reverb, but found it on CL too. I went through the CL listing because I had better negotiations without the reverb fees. Granted guitar was in a higher price range, so fees were higher. May not be an issue here.

re: Anybody have any luck selling guitars on Reverb?
I've sold a lot of guitars on Reverb and they usually sell quick. I always price them fair. I've had one listed for 2 weeks and haven't had an offer yet. I've had several messages about it. I have it listed for less than I paid for it used and I put bare knuckle pickups in it. Not sure what's going on, ha! I think maybe the used gear market has gone soft.

re: Anybody have any luck selling guitars on Reverb?
I just sold one 2 hours ago by surprise, that I wasn't even intending to sell, at the Mapco station
A picker that I know saw a case in the front seat of my truck, and wanted to know what I had with me.
It was a really nice Chinese guitar that I bought about 3 weeks ago with a nice case. Beautiful guitar, sounded fantastic after I tweaked it. He fell in love with it. I made $125 and kept the case.

Yes, I've sold several.

Their fees are stout though, I just sold a guitar earlier this week for about $3650 and my payout was only about $3340 before I paid for shipping.

100% agree.

I try to sell everything locally first and then put whatever I'm having trouble moving on Reverb simply to avoid the fees and any potential shipping issues.

re: Anybody have any luck selling guitars on Reverb?
Yeah, what I'm selling are guitars in the 6 or 7 hundred dollar range.
I'll lose a just a little on the Epiphone, but I'll do pretty well on the other 2 because I'm in them at a decent place.
I love the Frontier, It's a bad arse guitar, but I've got a Masterbilt AJ 500 (Basically a J-45 cutaway) with solid rosewood back and sides and an L.R. Baggs Anthem SL Pickup system, that suits my playing style just a little better.

re: Anybody have any luck selling guitars on Reverb?
I will say this for Reverb, they took care of me. Bought a pedal and the guy sent me a broken pedal then lied about it and said I lied. He was an arse in our messages to each other. I sent reverb pics and told them to see the conversation. They got me refunded. All other deals there have been ok, but I’m still a bit leary of smaller person to person deals there.
Talkbass board has the best online trading community in the world. Buy and sell there all the time.
