Not a huge Doors fan, but to be fair, Lester Bangs didn't hate them as much as Almost Famous suggests. He did rip them, and his review for Morrisson Hotel is a classic (something along the lines of "Roadhouse Blues is an awesome song that only a few bands a are capable of, and the Doors rarely bother to make. The rest of the album goes downhill quickly.") But he did give Morrison credit, too much IMO, for inspiring Iggy Pop.

I really dislike Morrison's crappy high school poetry and general trying way too hard, but Densmore and Manzarek are both pretty awesome, so it all balances out.

And Hello I Love You is a great damn song.

I hate the doors with a passion, but give props to Manzarek for producing X early on...

Jim Morrison was a punk. Another artist that became some kind of cult figure due to his death. (see cobain)

That said, Ray Manzarek was legit.

Opera star Teresa Stratas singing "The Alabama Song", from a performance of The Rise and Fall Of The City Of Mahagonny at the Metropolitan Opera.

The writers of "The Alabama Song": composer Kurt Weill (l) and lyrist-playwright Bertolt Brecht (r).

Center is Weill's wife, the singer Lotte Lenya, who is mentioned in Bobby Darin's "Mack The Knife" and who later played Rosa Klebb, the villain who got her kicks in From Russia With Love.
