Agreed, the band's attempts at poetry are bad. But when the Doors wrote and played 2-4 minute ROCK songs, they put out a fine body of music. Break on Through ... Soul Kitchen ... Crystal Ship ... Alabama Song ... End of the Night ... People Are Strange ... My Eyes Have Seen You ... You're Lost Little Girl ,,, The Unknown Soldier ,,, Spanish Caravan ... Summer's Almost Gone ... Roadhouse Blues... Peace Frog ... Changeling ... L.A. Woman ... and on and on.
Skip Celebration of the Lizard, American Prayer and all that stuff. The best of the Doors is the rock and blues stuff they created.

I'd put WTMO slightly ahead of The End as well. I was just telling you peeps to listen to the End with earbuds and cranked up. It's badass. (Studio version)

Almost Famous did for the Doors what Lebowski & Sideways did for the Eagles & Merlot.
I remember as a kid buying Soft Parade with the scant money in pocket...going home, putting on the vinyl and thinking WTF?!!? But I'm still a bigtime Manzarek fan. He was an inventor, legend, and the key piece to their sound.

Soft Parade is easily my least favorite album of The Doors.
But their debut album and LA Woman are classics. Strange Days/Morrison Hotel are damn good too. Waiting for the Sun is behind all of those but ahead of Soft Parade.
