Wilco has been a darling among critics, sells out shows, tweedys been on the cover of rolling stone and they are constantly lauded as one of the best american bands. Where are farrars accolades? Better yet, outside of a the alt-country crowd, who has even heard of jay farrar or son volt? Not that this has any effect on your opinion of the music, or anyones musical taste for that matter, just trying to prove that wilco is well known, while son volt is not.

You said well known. I disagree. I think more people know who Sun Volt is then Wilco. I know that is the case around these parts anyway.

Again, whens the last time son volt headlined a festival? Well known bands do such things. Wilco has won a grammy, son volt hasnt. Again, this isnt about musical preference, wilco is by far more well known than son volt. Gotta be pretty well known to be on the cover of rolling stone.

Whatever, I don't care enough either way to put my heart in this argument 
I still think if you asked 1000 random people if they've heard of either Sun Volt or Wilco more people would say they're familar with Sun Volt.

Wilco is way more known than Son Volt. I cant see how anyone could argue otherwise... Now if this was 1994, I'd argue the opposite...
Wilco has been nominated for a Grammy, I would doubt the last few Son Volt records top 50,000 in sales...

Well then you're just being silly... they are popular to your group of friends and you prefer them to Wilco, but to suggest other wise is jut being a wise arse...

Wilco is more popular than son volt. There's not really an argument there.
They sell more records, headline more festivals, sell out more shows, and win more critic awards.
I'm not saying which one is better, just that wilco is absolutely more well known and popular than son volt.
