That's what's funny about what's going on on this board. People who like the Deftones realize that this is awesome for the Varsity and are pumped about it, whereas people who don't like the Deftones want to say how this isn't special at all and they're old and washed up. I've never understood why people who don't like certain bands have to input their negative comments instead of just letting people enjoy what they like or offering some type of legit criticism.

All this discussion is actually making me a bigger fan.
I may just swap my Pantera playlist for my Deftones playlist for my drives home from work this week.

The problem is the people who own the varsity don't care about music. They hardly care about the varsity. It is decoration for the chimes. If they would make an investment to wrap the balcony around, similar to tipitinas, then they could compete with the new orleans venues for bigger acts.

I'm actually searching iTunes to buy some new Deftones songs as I type.

I can respect this.
but I made my comment based on the fact that I'm both a Deftones and Shakes fan.

He said the former, not the latter.

That's actually one of my favorite Deftones songs. I've been meaning to finish learning how to play it.
I currently own Be Quiet and Drive, My Own Summer, Diamond Eyes, You've Seen the Butcher, Back To School, Passenger, Change, and the entire Koi No Yokan album. Any suggestions outside of that?

Negative, I have been around for a long time and really have no idea who they are... maybe a certain type of rock...
Again, good get for the varsity..

A) Comparing Nashville or Dallas music scene to br is retarded
B) 99% of the posters have no idea about radius clauses or capacities of rooms some of these acts are playing
I think, more than anything, I'm bothered by the arrogance of statements like this. People listed a bunch of smaller acts they'd like to see at the Varsity (no one's demanding that you book the Rolling Stones) to service the college market. I'd like to see the Varsity get great acts just because it's a cool venue and I have fond memories of the place. My actual personal interest is zero, though.
But I list a bunch of acts and you respond with your authoritative, "they wouldn't draw 100 people". So I show the actual bookings in Dallas of a 600 and 1300 person venue. And the response is that we can't compare big city Dallas to the BR sticks. Well, which is it? These acts are too small to play the Varsity but too big to leave Dallas and Nashville to stoop to playing tiny Baton Rouge? You're arguing out of both sides of your mouth.
Yes, I'm aware of radius clauses. Dallas has to suffer under some pretty restrictive ones because of this tiny little thing called ACL (and Fun Fun Fun to a lesser extent). Though Texas courts hate restraints on trade.
It's not that y'all booked the Deftones. Good for you. But I don't care what's best for your bottom line, I'm not a stockholder. I care about Baton Rouge getting cool acts because I like to see it get cool acts. If you don't, no skin off my nose. But I don't like how the Deftones are proclaimed as this huge victory but anyone who suggests that y'all book some hipper, younger acts is a moron who couldn't possibly understand the intricacies of the business.
That's bull. It's an excuse. You don't book those acts because you don't want to. You can book both the Japandroids and the Deftones. There's no law against it.
I do like that y'all booked some hip hop shows. It sucked to be an LSU student who always had to drive to New Orleans to see a halfway decent rap show. Good on ya. That's very cool.

Deftones are a household name for sure.
I don't think me or any of my friends could name one song by the Deftones.
shite I had to look them up on allmusic to find out what genre of music they play.

Im sure the talent buyer cares about music but he is not the owner. The owners are not going to be happy if he books a bunch if up and coming bands and the varsity doesnt make money.

What genre of music do you listen to? Anyone who listens to hard rock at least knows of the Deftones, even if they can't name a song. They have a very unique style and have been kicking arse for about as long as I've been alive.

Please explain how any of that is not factual.
