My mother went to to LSU back in the 80s and saw SRV play at what would now be the Varsity.

Every time a thread pops up about some giant, big, earth-shattering act it's.."Grammy winning, best current live show.." ... Then it's announced and most are let down and the rebuttal is, 'well c'mon it's only an 800 person venue'

The Ryman seats little more than 2,000 but it gets everyone from Jack White to Neil Young. It's the Venue, not the physical location.

Athens, UGA gets great acts, but it's not exactly Houston, TX for booking.

I'll give Doc Mutemath(although they're from New Orleans so it's whatever), but the Deftones and Bush aren't anything to look twice at in astonishment.

Of Monsters and Men would be great..Alabama Shakes, Gary Clark, these up and comers. Even Medeski Martin and Wood.

Did your boy call Jack White when he came to New Orleans? Jack was playing surprise shows in laundry mats, little towns nearby his current shows, parking lots, etc. before his bigger city and festival shows.

NMAS is the best get so far IMO. I'll save my money on the Deftones weekend and head to NO and see the Shakes.

Mother freakin THIS. The Varsity is a venue located right next to a college, they need to pull more acts catered to the college crowd! People don't go because half of them don't know who Bush or The Deftones are...

That's debatable. This is BR, not the music capital of the US. And, doesn't Jack White live in Nashville?

New Orleans used to help the Varsity get shows, now it seems to be the opposite...fwiw.

Have you heard of a Radius Clause?

Some of you are so clueless.

The Deftones just released an album this year that debuted at #11 on the Billboard 200 with 65k sold in the first week. Why is everyone trying to downplay such a huge get for the Varsity because they don't like the band?

I'm a 20 year old student at LSU and I am pumped about this show. I assure you they will have no problem filling the Varsity for this show.

A) Comparing Nashville or Dallas music scene to br is retarded

B) 99% of the posters have no idea about radius clauses or capacities of rooms some of these acts are playing

Comparing Spanish Moon to the Varsity is retarded as well.

Saying we need to book more college shows...

Kendrick Lamar (Biggest rapper out right now) sold out w/ college kids,

BIG Krit (sold out w/ college kids),

Rebelution (Sold out w/ College Kids)

Mutemath (sold out with college kids)

And I'll also point out that the varsity getting a band that traditionally plays HOB 70 miles away is a MAJOR COUP

Some of you really are clueless

This really is a huge score for the Varsity. Can't please everyone!

If this Kendrick Lamar guy really is "the most popular rapper out right now" then it shouldn't suprise you that college kids sold it out. It's because he's relevant. Deftones won't sell out to a college crowd.

Deftones will sell out, probably in about 20 minutes if that.

Deftones have been around since 1988

They have very loyal fans and they'll buy these tickets quickly

That's fine but to compare this show like you did to Kendrick Lamar and him being so popular with college kids is silly.

The Varsity knows that the biggest fans of Deftones are probably 25-40. People that have money and will buy these tix for a more intimate show. It will absolutely be nuts.

I would say so. Saw them there at the end of 2006 and it was the usual HOB uncomfortable kind of packed...the Varsity never gets like that, at least.

I'm not knocking Doc at all. He knew and called this show days ago. I just think the Varsity still needs to step up their bookings.

This show will help get more relevant/national acts. That's for damn sure.
